Job description

Additional Information About the Role
Progress West Hospital has a full-time Lab Associate II opportunity for an experienced phlebtomist and lab processor to work in an outpatient setting ! In this role, you will also send out tests, pathology, and FNA collections. A great opportunity for growth in a laboratory setting!
Schedule: 3 12-hour shifts (6:00am - 6:30pm) with rotating weekends and holidays
Overview
Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare's newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Children's Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.
Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.
Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospital's medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
Laboratory Services provide on-site services 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Point of Care Testing provides immediate diagnostics for emergency situations and On-site patient testing services include: Chemistry -- Hematology, Blood Bank -- Coagulation, Urinalysis, Clinical Microscopy Mobile Care Units used for bedside, in-patient blood work, patient identification, and accurate specimen labeling. Outpatient lab draw services 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Friday. This department, along with all departments within the hospital, supports the guiding principles of the hospital in providing care that is customized and reflects the patient's needs, values, and choices.
Preferred Qualifications
Role Purpose
Performs a variety of pre analytic, analytic and post analytic laboratory duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
  • Performs waived and moderate complex testing with appropriate training and competency, sweat chloride collections, EKG's, etc.
  • Under supervision, reports test results as appropriate.
  • Sorts and processes routine and specific high level specimens received by the lab--including multistep technical processing (i.e. Histology, Microbiology, Cytology, etc.). Ensures correct processing and packaging for esoteric send out tests.
  • Coordinates a simultaneous series of tasks accurately, including STAT orders and fluctuation in workload, prioritizing work to complete within scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
  • Inventory management, equipment cleaning, maintenance, loading, etc.
