Job description

Job Summary/Objective: Medical Assistants help patients by providing information, services, and assistance. Other duties include securing medical records; maintaining medical supplies inventory; performing preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare patients for exams, record patient vital signs and obtain medical history and/or changes in medical history.
  • Carry out tests, immunization on patients and administer medications as directed by the providers’ instructions.
  • Perform routine screenings and routing lab tests such as urine dips, strep screens, flu tests, etc.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for doctors to attend to patients in a conducive environment.
  • Facilitate patients checking in and out of the clinic.
  • Clean exam rooms after each patient.
  • Adhere to confidentiality standards, OSHA and HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain operations by adhering to policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Walking, squatting, sitting, bending, reaching and standing
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Average lifting requirements: 20-40 lbs.
  • Ability to grasp and feel with both hands; pinch with thumb or forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach for (above shoulder height).

VISUAL, HEARING, AND MENTAL DEMANDS

  • Vision adequacies include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Hearing adequately to perform essential functions such as listening to patients and/or guardian.
  • Mental capacity is adequate to perform essential functions such as obtaining medical history, vital signs, administer vaccinations, etc. Tact to deal with unfriendly individuals regarding various situations, and adequately handle stress.

Travel Requirements: Up to 25% may be required, depending on business needs, and will include all PIB locations.

Required Hours: Available for shifts Monday through Friday from 7:45am-7pm and weekend rotations in all PIB offices.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Degree in Medical Assistant or three (3) years of experience as a Medical Assistant (preferred)
  • Must have active BLS.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must have knowledge of basic medical terminology and inventory control.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)

Start time is 7:45 and end time is 5:00-5:30 for our MA Floats with a meal break. Floats also work 4-5 days a week. Every clinical hire is required to work one weekend day a month either on Sat or a Sunday.
