Description
The Medina Lab is seeking a motivated and creative Postdoctoral Fellow to study the molecular biology of Influenza viruses. Our research focuses on understanding viral pathogenesis and host responses using molecular, cellular, and systems biology approaches.
The Medina Lab is embedded in a highly interactive research environment through the Pathology Advanced Translational Research Unit (PATRU) in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Emory Vaccine Center at the Emory University School of Medicine, providing access to state-of-the-art facilities, extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, and a rich network of researchers in virology, immunology, and translational science.
We are particularly interested in candidates who are enthusiastic about developing independence while contributing to a collaborative research environment. While prior experience in all listed areas is not required, applicants should have a strong foundation in at least one relevant discipline and a willingness to learn new techniques.
Research Areas & Approaches
  • Molecular virology of influenza and emerging RNA viruses
  • Host-pathogen interactions and immune responses
  • Systems biology approaches to viral infection
  • In vitro and in vivo infection models

Preferred Qualifications
  • Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Genetics, or a related field.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: Molecular virology or virus-host interactions, Cell culture and molecular cloning techniques, Reverse genetics systems, Animal models of infection, and/or High-containment (BSL-3) laboratory experience.

  • Design and conduct research projects, with increasing independence over time
  • Contribute to the development of new ideas and experimental approaches
  • Analyze data and prepare manuscripts for publication
  • Present research findings in lab meetings and scientific conferences
  • Participate in a collaborative lab environment and may assist in mentoring junior trainees

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (Ph.D., M.D., ScD., D.V.M., DDS etc) in an appropriate field.

  • Additional qualifications as specified by the Principal Investigator.
