Description
Position Summary
The Laboratory Operations Associate (LAO) position is an entry level position responsible for ensuring high quality standards of commercial laboratory products and records through critical evaluations. The LAO performs activities related to laboratory quality control, specimen retention, recordkeeping, and inventory. Attends in-service training sessions sponsored by the department and continues personal growth by preparing for additional duties and responsibilities.
What you'll be doing:
  • Inspect prepared slides produced daily by the laboratory.
  • Review laboratory case documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Perform quality checks on paperwork and slides using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Operate equipment to print documents and slide labels.
  • Identify and categorize discrepancies in cases before distribution.
  • Follow organizational standards and policy for performing assigned tasks.
  • Document and execute slide handoffs between departmental areas.
  • Receive laboratory materials, conduct inventory counts, and restock supplies using established systems.
  • Adhere to assigned procedures and report any deviations as necessary.
  • Assist in the filing and organizing slides and paperwork after pathology review.
  • Coordinate shipments to Iron Mountain as needed.
  • Escalate issues to appropriate individuals as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Laboratory, Quality Department and Pathology Operations to support laboratory objectives.
  • Coordinate and perform shipments to Iron Mountain for off-site storage as required.
  • Unload and organize digitized slides from Olympus VS200 scanners in a case distribution tower.
  • Acknowledge and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs); promptly report any deviations.
  • Assist with filing and organizing slides and paperwork after review by the pathology team.
  • Adapt to operational changes as need.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements
What you'll need:
  • 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory or healthcare setting required.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
  • Experience with inventory management, electronic data entry, paperwork, and recordkeeping preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general familiarity with internet tools for business applications.
  • Ability to interpret records accurately with a strong focus on precision.
  • Strong ability to follow instructions and identify appropriate resources for guidance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to supporting colleagues and achieving organizational goals.

  • Ability to use copiers and PDF scanners to keep inventory and ordering records. Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish sufficient detail.

  • This role will be expected to work onsite at the company's Scottsdale, AZ headquarters 5 days/week.
  • Shift: Tuesday-Saturday 9:00am-5:30pm (Onsite). Training: first week M-F 8am-4:30pm.
