What are we looking for?

Under direction of the Lab Manager - Minerals, the Lab Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintenance service and repairs in the areas of sample preparation equipment, fire assay equipment, fume hoods and neutralization systems, etc.

Shift/Schedule:  1st position: Tuesday-Saturday, 7:30am - 5:30pm; 2nd position: Sunday-Thursday, 5:30am - 3:30pm

What you'll do:

  • Ensure all laboratory equipment within sample preparation equipment, fire assay equipment, fume hoods and neutralization systems, etc. are in working order and maintained as per preventive maintenance schedule

  • Advise Lab Manager of spare parts list in line with equipment requirements

  • Ensure maintenance instrument logs and calibration records are maintained to ensure the validity and traceability of the information

  • Seek vendors and quotations for work beyond internal capabilities with prior approval from Lab Manager

  • Provide consultation to Lab Manager as to additional improvements opportunities for equipment utilization and efficiency

  • During downtime, assist Lab Technicians as required by Lab Manager

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Maintenance Trade School certification
  • Ability to comprehend complex technical drawings equipment drawings and troubleshoot as required
  • Ability to plan and perform mechanical tasks safely as per technical instructions
  • Ability to safely perform manual handling tasks, including standing for extended periods and regularly lifting items weighing approximately 50 pounds, in accordance with safe work practices
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills suitable for a laboratory and production environment
  • Ability to work independently once trained, while managing a fluctuating workload and changing priorities
  • Capacity to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment while maintaining safety and quality standards
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills with sound mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to support operational and production requirements
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record is required

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Millwright or Industrial Mechanic experience is preferred
  • Two years of experience in a machine fitting / repair environment
