Job description

Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA), Under general supervision, the CLA performs a variety of tasks related to the pre-analytical processing of biological specimens for testing performed in the clinical laboratory. The CLA will perform phlebotomy collections, label, and process patient specimens for testing while maintaining the highest level of customer service. This position assists with facilitating send out testing, ensure proper patient registration, paper requisition filing, supply management support, answers phones, ensuring proper labeling of samples and sample distribution. Under the general supervision, may perform waived testing upon initial training as needed. The CLA will complete other duties as assigned.
All organizational staff, including this position, are specifically required as a condition of continued employment to make advance preparations for their families and pets in the event of weather emergencies such as Hurricanes and flooding threats. Any staff member can be determined as essential staff required to report to the facility during these events. In many cases this means reporting and sleeping at the facility before, during and after a weather emergency. By signing this job description, the staff member accepts this responsibility of readiness to report to work during any designated emergency staffing situation. CMC staff members operate as one team meeting the healthcare needs of our communities, thus this position will on occasion complete other duties as assigned beyond those designated in this primary job description which may include "float" coverage at an alternate facility, department or assignment
Qualifications
Education:
  • High school Diploma required.
  • Qualifies as a Clinical Lab Assistant in one of five (5) ways required:
    • Certified Phlebotomist through an accredited agency (ASCP preferred) and a minimum one (1) year Clinical Lab Assistant experience or;
    • Certified as a Clinical Lab Assistant by an accredited agency (ASCP preferred).
    • Currently a Senior enrolled in a Bachelor's of Science in Biology.
    • Hold at least a 2 year degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or a health related specialty
    • Two years experience in specimen collections, processing, requisitioning for a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting.

Experience:
  • Previous experience working in Physician practice and/or hospital based Lab experience preferred.

  • Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Strong PC skills required.
  • Strong verbal communication skills required.
