Your role at Clorox:

Delivery of Clorox's 4 pts. of innovation growth and support of base business product changes is contingent upon completion and success of new or change development experiments, sample generation, and testing in the R&D area. This position is responsible for executing work delegated by the R&D laboratory manager that has been requested by Burt's Bees and Foods R&D to ensure product launch and optimization success.

In this role, you will:

Technical R&D Lab Support - 65%

  • Execute assigned batching, testing, stability, and sample preparation requests.
  • Manage execution timelines, ensuring work is completed accurately and on time
  • Proactively communicate progress, results, and potential challenges to key stakeholders; collaborate on solutions to meet project deliverables.
  • Follow established methods and procedures to generate reliable and reproducible data.

Site & Equipment Maintenance - 15%

  • Perform routine set-up, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment to ensure operational readiness
  • Maintain clean, organized, and functional lab spaces to support efficient operations.
  • Identify equipment or safety issues and escalate appropriately.
  • Support implementation of maintenance improvements and corrective actions.

Inventory & Materials Management - 15%

  • Manage intake, labeling, storage, and disposal of raw materials and samples in line with safety and compliance standards.
  • Maintain accurate material inventory records.
  • Support periodic material reviews to remove obsolete or expired items and comply with safety requirements.
  • Replenish consumables and maintain shared lab workspaces for efficient and safe operation.

Lab Demonstrations & Exhibitions - 5%

  • Assist in setup, execution, and teardown of lab tours and demonstrations.
  • Ensure materials and equipment are prepared for demonstrations as requested.

What we look for:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in R&D Laboratory roles, personal care industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with R&D systems - e.g. MS Office, material/formula tracking, lab notebooks, laboratory data capture, and knowledge management.
  • Strong lab fundamentals and technique
  • Knowledge of personal care raw materials, formulations, and processes and the ability to successfully execute batches at lab scale.
  • Applicable knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Outlook, Excel, etc.) and lab software
  • Ability to efficiently execute detailed tasks consistently while adhering to standard processes.
  • Skilled in good documentation practices to ensure concise and consistent record keeping
  • Associate's or similar degree preferred in a relevant scientific field - or relevant transferrable lab experience
  • Mobility: Standing for extended periods; frequent movement between benches, equipment, and storage.
  • Dexterity: Fine motor skills for pipettes, vials, small tools; strong hand-eye coordination.
  • Lifting: Ability to lift 5-30 lbs (raw materials, sample containers, small equipment).
  • Sensory: Visual acuity for labels, measurements, and instrument outputs; ability to detect color changes, phase separation, and odors.
