Learning Specialist EMS Lab Assistant

MassBay CommunityCollege seeks qualified part time Lab Assistants/Learning Specialists in ourEMT and Paramedicine courses. TheEmergency Medical Services Lab Assistant/Learning Specialist assists in thelaboratory and simulation setting in the Emergency Medical Technician andParamedic Programs. Our Lab Assistants/Learning Specialists have obtained andmaintain current, unrestricted, and appropriate state and national certificationand/or licensure where applicable and have earned appropriate education. Thesecertifications and licensures must be provided, as requested, to meet state andnational accreditation requirements. TheLearning Specialists/Lab Assistant must be proficient in all areas ofprehospital patient management and interventions, communicate effectively,assess students objectively and work as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide instruction in EMS courses to students on various topics in basic and advanced emergency care procedures and patient management;
  • Supervise and/or evaluate students through skills practice in the proper procedures for safe and effective use of EMS equipment and simulation manikins under the direction of the Instructor/Coordinator or lead instructor;
  • Coordinate and facilitate groups of students and supervise open lab, as needed;
  • Maintain current working knowledge of prehospital practices and EMS education curriculum and teaching methodology;
  • Maintain appropriate paperwork and documentation;
  • Collaborate with faculty concerning students' academic progress and needs;
  • Prepare EMS lab sessions with the proper number of materials and equipment necessary to effectively teach or evaluate EMS skills for each student under the direction of the Instructor/Coordinator or lead instructor;
  • Maintain a safe lab environment during skills training and evaluation sessions;
  • Attends at least one department or Advisory Committee meeting each semester;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
  • MA Paramedic certification in good standing with no history of suspension or revocation;
  • Current AHA BLS and ACLS certification.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Paramedic + Current Massachusetts EMS Instructor/Coordinator credential;
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, PALS instructor credentials;
  • Experience working with college students in a flexible setting;
  • Three (3) years of experience as a Paramedic functioning on an emergency response ambulance.

Times and days vary depending on the semester.
Must be able to commit to 4-8 hours weekly during the semesters.
The program has day and evening EMT and Paramedicine courses.
Both EMT and Paramedicine programs enroll students in the fall, spring and summer.

Salary Range: $49.32 - 49.32 Hourly Wage
Classification Type: MCCC Part-Time, Grade 5
