Overview
Under general direction of the lab coordinator, independently performs END procedures in the laboratory, at the bedside, in critical care units and in the operating room on all ages of patients served by the department. The Senior Technologist performs complex patient examinations requiring extensive computer interaction and/or computation of recorded data, and provides technical descriptions of data. Assists in training of junior staff members. Assists in establishing and maintaining department procedures and protocols.
Qualifications
Education:
  • High School graduate required. Associate Degree or higher preferred.
  • Graduate of an electroneurodiagnostic technology program, accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation, or equivalent formal training is required.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:
  • Eligible for/or successful completion of the Part I examination for registration by ABRET and or 1-3 years' experience in EEG.
  • CPR Certification, preferred.

Experience:
  • Three to five years experience in END Technology is required.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Moderate/heavy physical effort required. Must be capable of standing, walking, stooping, bending, lifting and holding for extended periods of time.
  • Universal Precautions Category I.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs the duties of the END Technologist 805 under the general direction of the lab coordinator rather than under general supervision.

  1. Performs all modalities of evoked potentials with high-quality results in the laboratory, intensive care units and the operating room.

  1. Performs advanced EEG/Evoked Potential recordings during special studies.

  1. Performs long-term video EEG and Evoked Potential monitoring on patients with intracranially placed and/or grids and scalp electrodes.

  1. Performs advanced EEG/Evoked Potential recordings during neurosurgical and orthopedic intraoperative studies, including Pedicle Screw Stimulation, Transcranial Motor Evoked Potentials, Neurogenic Motor Evoked Potentials, Pudendal Nerve Monitoring.

  1. Responsible for scanning Neuro Intensive Video/EEG data, identifying critical segments and providing the condensed data to the interpreting physician.

  1. Assists lab coordinator in orientation and training of laboratory staff, residents, and EEG Fellows.

  1. Maintains state of the art clinical expertise in all areas of electroneurodiagnostics through continuing education, and relates new clinical advances to junior staff members.

  1. Assists in establishing and maintaining department procedures and protocols.

  1. Assumes responsibility for laboratory operations in the lab supervisor's absence.

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
