Job Title: Laboratory Technician – Seed Quality Testing

Job Description

This role supports a high-throughput seed quality testing laboratory that plays a vital part in a large row crop production organization. The Laboratory Technician performs routine and specialized laboratory tasks under the supervision of a full-time employee, helping to ensure that seed quality meets rigorous standards through accurate testing, careful sample handling, and reliable data generation. The position involves hands-on work with seeds and laboratory equipment in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment where tasks may shift based on production seasons and daily laboratory needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory tasks such as seed dropping, crushing, planting, harvesting, counting, grinding, reagent preparation, and other assigned functions to support seed quality testing.
  • Assist in operating laboratory equipment to generate accurate and reliable data in accordance with established procedures.
  • Support the receipt and inspection of raw materials, including assisting with ordering, receiving, and stocking laboratory supplies.
  • Follow established instructions, standard operating procedures, and guidelines to perform laboratory tasks safely and effectively.
  • Apply standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the scientific field to ensure consistent, high-quality test results.
  • Conduct routine and preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment under the guidance and supervision of a full-time employee.
  • Handle samples carefully to maintain integrity and traceability throughout the testing process.
  • Collaborate with team members and adapt to shifting lab teams and tasks based on the current production season and daily laboratory priorities.

Work involves frequent standing for 4–6 hours, repetitive hand and arm movements, and lifting materials weighing 40–50 lbs. The position requires hands-on work with laboratory equipment and biological samples, including extensive sample preparation and basic biological testing. Two primary shifts are available: a first shift from 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM and a second shift from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with hours subject to change based on business and laboratory requirements. Standard laboratory safety practices and appropriate lab attire and personal protective equipment are expected at all times.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $21.00/hr.
