Job description

We're looking for people who put their innovation to work to advance our success - and their own. Join an organization that ensures a more secure world through connecting and protecting our customers with inventive electrical solutions.

If you enjoy handson lab work and like being trusted to think, adapt, and solve problems, this role is for you. As a R&D Engineering Lab Technician, you'll support prototype and preproduction testing while interacting directly with engineers on new and evolving product builds. This is an opportunity to grow your technical skills in a dynamic R&D lab supporting advanced data center cooling and enclosure solutions.

** This is an hourly position and you will work on-site 5 days/week in Anoka, MN. You will work 40 hours/week with core hours being from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm. **

WHAT YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN THIS POSITION:

  • Set up and complete prototype, preproduction, and agency testing in nVent's R&D lab across enclosures, cooling, and high-density liquid cooling (HDLC) product areas.
  • Partner closely with engineers to understand test intent, adapt test setups, and support evolving test plans and procedures.
  • Build, modify, and operate test fixtures, lab equipment, and prototypes to support new product development and validation testing.
  • Collect accurate test results, record measurements and observations, and prepare clear, wellorganized technical reports with observations and supporting data.
  • Identify, analyze, and address test setups, equipment issues, and product behavior-applying mechanical, electrical, and controls knowledge.
  • Support lab organization, equipment calibration, and continuous improvement efforts to increase lab efficiency and throughput.
  • Contribute to design, value engineering, and new product introduction (NPI) activities by providing handson lab and testing support.

YOU HAVE:

  • Associate degree or equivalent technical training in electrical, electronics, HVAC, refrigeration, or a related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working in an engineering, R&D, or test lab required; experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical proficiency, with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve test setup, instrumentation, equipment, and product behavior beyond provided procedures.
  • Ability to document and communicate test results through clear, accurate technical reports, data collection, and test documentation using standard computer tools (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Comfortable using common lab instrumentation and measurement equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, pressure/force gauges, voltage meters) and software for data logging or test station operation.
  • Ability to lift, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs. and stand or sit for extended periods during testing activities.
  • EPA 608 certification required, or willingness to acquire within 3 months of start date (company paid).
