Position Description Position Title Transportation Lab Technician Secondary Title Group / Grade 6 Classification Classified Work Location TRC or RWC Overtime Eligible Non-Exempt Division Student Learning & Success Differentials Department Transportation Technology Reports To Director of Transportation & Industrial Technology Supervision Received Works under the general supervision of the Director of Transportation & Industrial Technology. Supervisory Responsibility Supervision is not a responsibility of this position. May oversee student employees.

Position Summary Responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and operational readiness of tools, equipment, and lab spaces within the Transportation Technology program. Supports instructional activities by assisting instructors during lab sessions and providing day-to-day oversight of student employees, with an emphasis on safe practices. Coordinates customer service functions, including scheduling, communication, and processing repair-related documentation and transactions.

Monitors inventory, supports departmental operations, and assists with events or off-site activities involving program equipment. Examples of Duties - Essential Functions 1. Lab Operations & Instructional Support Maintain safe and accessible lab environments, ensuring compliance with safety standards and proper use of tools and equipment.

Assist instructors during lab sessions and instructional activities. Prepare and organize lab spaces for classes. Maintain security and organization of the lab, tool crib, and equipment.

Oversee and provide day-to-day direction to student employees in lab settings. Monitor student use of tools and equipment to ensure safe and proper operation. 2.

Customer Service & Administrative Support Communicate with internal and external partners via phone and email. Schedule appointments and coordinate customer repair services performed in a training lab environment. Provide customer service support, including responding to inquiries and communicating repair timelines and expectations.

Order parts and maintain inventory to ensure materials are available for instructional and lab needs. Process work orders, invoices, and related documentation. 3.

Other Duties as Assigned May participate in College committees as assigned. Engages in professional growth opportunities as assigned. Supports assessment activities at the course, program, or institutional level as assigned.

Screening Criteria 1. Minimum Qualifications Education - A High School Diploma or GED is required. Experience - A minimum of three years of experience in automotive and/or diesel repair, including customer service responsibilities.

Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609. Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s)

Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in automotive, diesel, or transportation technology or a related field ASE certifications Experience working in an instructional, training, or educational lab environment Experience with automotive repair software (e.g., Mitchell or similar systems) Forklift certification and/or Commercial Driver's License (CDL) 3

Essential Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Core Competencies) Knowledge - Automotive and diesel/transportation systems, parts, and repair practices; procedures used in automotive and diesel repair environments; tools and equipment used in lab/shop settings; applicable safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA); and computer systems and software used for scheduling, inventory, and repair documentation (e.g., Mitchell or similar systems). Skills - Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; effective verbal and written communication; proficiency in automotive and/or diesel repair techniques; and ability to use computers and software for scheduling, documentation, and basic recordkeeping. Abilities - Ability to maintain a safe, secure, and organized lab environment; apply established policies, regulations, and procedures; work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and the public; provide guidance and oversight to student employees; support instructional activities; manage multiple tasks and priorities; and respond effectively to operational and customer service needs in a fast-paced lab setting

4. Other Requirements For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required. 5.

Physical Demands The physical demands listed below represent those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The position requires mobility and the ability to lift and/or move materials up to 25 pounds frequently and 25-60 pounds occasionally. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms. 7.

Working Conditions The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to noise, dust, fumes, hazardous gases and vapors, and mechanical equipment. The work environment may include temperature fluctuations due to open shop areas, resulting in hot conditions during warmer months and cooler conditions during colder months. The position may involve exposure to wet or slippery surfaces and requires adherence to established safety procedures.

The noise level is typically moderate to high, and lighting is generally adequate. Additional Posting Information This is a Full-time Classified, 30 hour per week (75%) position in the Transportation Technology department. Starting compensation is entry level for Group 6 on the 2025-26 Classified Wage Schedule.
