Title: Laboratory Specialist - MLT/MLA/Phlebotomy

Job Summary
This is a full-time, fiscal year appointment assisting the medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory assistant, and phlebotomy departments. This position reports to the Chair of Allied Health. The Laboratory Specialist provides coordinating and academic support to faculty and students in laboratory and clinical settings, assists with clinical evaluations, self-study reports, computer lab, etc.
Job Duties
  • Assist faculty and independently conduct MLT, PLBT, and MLA laboratory classes.
  • Assists faculty in setting up and delivering simulation. This entails working with faculty to create scenarios and facilitate student learning through simulation.
  • Set up and clean labs and equipment.
  • Maintain lab equipment, schedule repairs/replacements.
  • Maintain budget and inventory of laboratory equipment and stock cultures.
  • Order and maintain lab and clerical supplies.
  • Maintain student files, perform clerical duties related to teaching.
  • Assist with health fairs, national lab week activities, recruiting and MLT Student Association activities.
  • Participates in function of department - participates in department management and governance through department committee participation, and functions as part of the team, participates in orientations, pinning, and other areas.
  • Community Building - help in community events supporting both faculty and students and supports partnership with external entities.
  • Other duties as directed by the Chair.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a science discipline, preferably in Medical Lab Technology.
  • National certification as MLT; Tennessee State Licensure as MLT.
  • One-year full-time work experience as MLT.
  • General clinical lab experience and computer skills desired.
