Job description

Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)

     Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Molecular Biology or a closely related field in hand by the appointment start date.

     Experience with cryogenic electron tomography.

     Experience with soft x-ray tomography.

     Experience with molecular biology techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

     Experience with confocal microscopy.

     Experience with tissue culture of pancreatic cell lines.

     Experience with 3D cellular visualization.

Brief Description of Duties:
Stony Brook University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to join the research laboratory of Dr. Kathryn Gunn. The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative research project investigating vesicular storage of pancreatic metabolic enzymes. This work will require knowledge of pancreatic tissue culture, confocal microscopy, cryogenic electron tomography, soft x-ray tomography and 3D cellular visualization. The project will also incorporate nanobody display approaches to support molecular targeting and visualization efforts. Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to basic molecular biology techniques, negative stain electron microscopy, and enzymatic activity assays.

The incumbent will be responsible for conducting research and ensuring that all experiments are performed in accordance with the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

Duties:

     Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, carry out experiments and other research activities in accordance with the research goals of the lab.

     Collect and analyze data for reporting experimental results in scientific publications.

     Assist with training other lab members in specialized scientific techniques.

     Participate in weekly lab meetings presenting research data.

     Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission, which may include attending and presenting research results at Scientific Conferences and Meetings.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
