Job Posting: Powder Coating Lab Technician

Location: St Charles, IL
Department: Lab / Technical Services

Overall Mission / Responsibility

The Powder Coating Lab Technician is responsible for providing high-quality powder coating samples that meet customer requirements, supporting product development, and ensuring lab operations run smoothly and safely.


Key Responsibilities / Tasks

Color Matching

  • Formulate using standard NAFTA formulations.

  • Perform color matching and testing to meet customer specifications.

  • Conduct computer color readings and make visual/computer adjustments as needed.

Lab Equipment Setup & Operation

  • Set up and operate lab extruders.

  • Ensure proper operation of lab equipment during trials.

  • Clean, disassemble, and maintain lab equipment according to management procedures (e.g., lockout and clean-down procedures).

Sample Production

  • Produce lab samples through extrusion, grinding, and spraying processes.

  • Produce metallic lab samples using bonding mixers for bonding trials.

  • Monitor lab runs for quality and machine performance; notify supervisor of any abnormalities.

Safety & Housekeeping

  • Maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.

  • Perform general cleaning and housekeeping in the lab area.

  • Follow all application safety guidelines and protocols at all times.


Qualifications

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Chemistry.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant lab experience in a technical or coating environment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.

  • Basic IT skills for data recording and reporting.

  • Effective communication skills in English (read, write, and speak).

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a lab setting.
