Job description

Who we are at Osmo:
Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory.
Olfactory Intelligence has applications across industries including fragrance, manufacturing, security, medicine, and more. We believe in the power of automation and thoughtfully applied AI/ML to solve problems beyond the reach of human intuition alone. Osmo is headquartered in New York, NY, with a new facility in New Jersey, and offices in Somerville, MA.
Osmo is seeking a Lab Associate to join our expanding Human Perception team. You will play a crucial role in supporting the success of Osmo's first flagship project pipelines by generating samples reliably and at scale. You are a good communicator, detail oriented with experience in a laboratory setting. Your responsibilities include organization of our chemical compound inventory, sample preparation, adhering to stringent safety protocols, and assisting with packing and shipping tasks.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day chemical lab operations, ensuring smooth and efficient processes.
  • Engage in high-throughput sample preparations of fragrance samples for application testing, sensory and analytical evaluations (e.g., performance and stability in personal care and home care products).
  • Operate liquid handling instruments (ex. Tecan, Opentrons, and/or Mantis) to prepare samples and create mixtures and formulas.
  • Operate analytical chemistry instruments (ex. GCMS - Agilent and Gerstel systems) to conduct tests, gather data, and support research efforts.
  • Knowledge in fragrance applications, ingredients and sensory evaluation.
  • Follow strict safety protocols in the handling, storage, and disposal of chemical compounds to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Assist in packing and shipping tasks, ensuring that lab products are safely and correctly prepared for transportation.

Required Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus or 2-5 years of high-throughput lab experience.
  • Strong understanding of chemical safety protocols.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Ways to stand out
  • Hands-on experience with SQL/Python.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000
