Job description

  • DEFINITION/PRIMARY FUNCTION
    • This position is mainly responsible for processing of specimens which includes handling all types of bodily fluids. This position is also responsible for plating specimens on appropriate growth media. This position also includes the performance of clinical laboratory examinations that are considered “waived” tests under CLIA 88 and general lab quality control, instrument maintenance, and other functions toward the attainment of these goals.
  • POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)
    • Experience:
      • Prior experience in an approved laboratory. Computer skills highly desirable.
    • Education and Training:
      • Associate's Degree in sciences required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
    • License, Certification & Registration:
      • N/A
    • Other Requirements:
      • Independent judgment and initiative required to adapt to techniques and procedures for routine testing of samples in most areas of the laboratory with the exception of complex tests and to schedule, organize and plan work.
      • Flexibility and adaptability in emergency situations including working additional hours or shifts.
      • Ability to work efficiently, accurately, and alertly for extended periods of time, and under stress, to ensure against errors.
      • Skills in phlebotomy including care and accuracy in the collection and labeling of specimens.
      • Effective communication skills, use of computer systems, listening, speaking, writing and reading.
