Description
Position Summary
Cleans laboratory equipment such as glassware, sinks, and tables using sponges, towels, brushes, and cleaning solvents. Prepares solutions, labels tubes and specimen containers, collects specimens, charts and files laboratory data, and performs simple tests under supervision.
Position Accountabilities
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Collects specimens as directed and takes them to the laboratory for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens. May be responsible for logging specimens into the laboratory.
Maintains required records, reports, and statistics as directed.
Labels and records all test tubes, logs procedures in a logbook, schedules procedures as necessary.
Assists in care and maintenance of laboratory work area and furnishings/equipment.
Collects specimens from newborns through geriatric by venipuncture or by finger or heal stick as indicated.
Maintains good relations with patients, medical staff and other departments as well as other hospitals that use services.
Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
