Lab Automation TechnicianLocation: 26 Davis Drive, Research Triangle Park, NC Pay Rate: $26.50 on W2 Must have: Genomic technology used to analyze the DNA and RNA of seeds at a high resolutionThis role is in sequencing lab that processes hundreds of thousands of plant samples annually for customers. The primary task is to use semi-automated platforms to perform repetitive NGS library prep and associated support tasks. It is not a research position. It is ideally suited to someone who is comfortable working in a commercial laboratory setting performing repetitive analysis for customers.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology or Genetics is required so please be sure to verify education should your candidate get offered this position.Qualifications/Experience:Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology or Genetics plus two or more years relevant laboratory experience. - RequiredExperience in a high throughput testing lab (greater than 200K samples/year) generating routine analytical data.Ability to initiate and complete analytical testing according to applicable work instructions within a defined timeline and compliant with QMS guidelines.Knowledge and understanding of the technical aspects of Next Generation sequencing and DNA isolation/extraction.Strong critical thinking skills and attention to detail.Experience with laboratory automation, liquid handling platforms, and software systems such as LIMS.Proactive communication on progress of assigned projectsAbility to interact positively and proactively with team membersPrevious experience with plants or agricultural crops preferred, but not requiredComputer skills including Windows 7, SharePoint and MS Office, especially Word and Excel.Responsibilities:The Sequencing Technician will perform repetitive, high throughput Next Generation sequencing runs in a laboratory that processes over 300K cotton and soybean samples annually. The technician will follow a pre-established process and operate semi-automated high throughput laboratory platforms to complete NGS sequencing run from multiple crop species in a specified timeframe and consistent with internal quality standards. All work will be assigned by team supervisors, and registration of completion performed by the Lab Technician using a lab information system (LIMS). The technician will perform daily duties within the sequencing lab including sample and reagent preparation, consumable stocking, and routine maintenance tasks. The Sequencing Technician will also assist other analysts with high throughput DNA extractions using semi and fully automated platforms. Prior experience and comfort working in a high throughput lab environment performing repetitive routine work is preferred. Knowledge or interest in lab automation, plant genetics, and lab information management systems is a plus. This position will report to the STA labs team lead and is located in RTP at the 26 Davis site.
