Job description

Histology Lab Assistant

The Histology Lab Assistant performs the daily activities of various lab and clerical duties in the Anatomic Pathology department. Key responsibilities include transcribing dictations from pathologists; processing and tracking pathology material being sent to other labs for additional testing; coordinating surgical; cytological; and bone marrow case paperwork and slides for delivery to pathologist; and working closely with physicians and hospital staff. Other duties include answering phones; preparing documents; working with other lab personnel; and assisting the pathologists and lab director in other various duties.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education: High school or equivalent

Minimum Work Experience: No previous experience

Required Licenses/Certifications:

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • One year previous experience in the medical field with a strong background in medical terminology
  • Experience in medical transcription is preferred
  • Must type a minimum of 40 WPM
  • Compile statistics
