Job description

We are looking for a talented JTC Engine Test Lab Emissions Technician to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Cummins Inc. facility in Jamestown, NY.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Installing, configuring, calibrating, and repairing complex instrumentation systems that ensure accurate, reliable data for engineering decisions.

  • Developing robust instrumentation setups and troubleshooting issues quickly to keep testing operations running smoothly and on schedule.

  • Operating, programming, and maintaining data acquisition systems, test cells, rigs, and specialized instrumentation that enable high-quality test execution.

  • Designing, fabricating, and repairing test fixtures, hydraulic systems, servo‑hydraulic rigs, and other critical test infrastructure that expands testing capability.

  • Installing and calibrating strain gauges, thermocouples, transducers, and electronic monitoring systems to capture precise measurements across a wide range of test conditions.

  • Managing equipment inventories, documentation, and PC/network systems to maintain a well‑organized, dependable, and technologically current test environment.

  • Supporting and developing others by training apprentices and technicians, collaborating with engineers and suppliers, and presenting technical information clearly.

  • Leading and contributing to improvement projects, quality initiatives, and program coordination efforts that enhance efficiency, capability, and customer satisfaction.

To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • A disciplined approach to data acquisition , ensuring samples are prepared correctly, equipment is calibrated, and tests follow approved procedures so the data you deliver is accurate, repeatable, and trusted.

  • Strong data‑reporting skills , organizing methods, settings, results, and analysis in a way that engineers and customers can easily understand and use to make sound decisions.

  • A solid understanding of product function test system design , including the ability to interpret standards, select the right equipment and instrumentation, integrate software, and verify that lab capabilities match test requirements.

  • Hands‑on proficiency in test article builds , assembling components and integrating instrumentation so each article is prepared to withstand and perform correctly during functional testing.

  • Skill in test setup and configuration , reading test plans, positioning articles safely and effectively, and fabricating any required systems or hardware to support the test.

  • Clear, adaptive communication , tailoring information to technicians, engineers, customers, and other stakeholders so expectations, results, and technical details are always understood.

  • Attention to safety and environmental requirements , ensuring every setup, configuration, and test action aligns with local standards and contributes to a safe testing environment.

  • A mindset of precision, ownership, and continuous improvement , enabling you to refine processes, solve problems effectively, and consistently elevate the quality of testing operations.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma, certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience in an appropriate STEM field is required.

Regionally applicable certification or two year Associates Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study may be required.

This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

Additional Information:

The role does require a temporary relocation to a satellite CMI Technical Center in Southern Indiana for comprehensive training for 6 months after hire. **** Candidate will be reimbursed for travel. More details will be shared at the interview.

The Primary objective of the Engine Test Lab Emissions Technician is to provide comprehensive emissions measurement device support for the JTC Engine Test Lab.

This responsibility can also carry over to supporting other labs, both offsite as well as mobile.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Providing support for exhaust emissions sampling equipment and conditioning hardware, Maintaining inventory of consumable goods for equipment, and,

Development of PM processes and procedures for said equipment.

Also included, aside from the mechanical instrument work, is the reviewing of instrument health check data to drive continuous improvement and predictive maintenance.

Please note that the salary range provided is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. The final salary offer will be determined after considering relevant factors, including a candidate’s qualifications and experience, where appropriate.
