Job description

The Archer School for Girls seeks a dedicated and passionate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) Apprentice for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with and a deep commitment to fostering a love for STEAM disciplines in middle and upper school students and have a strong background in teaching hands-on projects, 3d design and fabrication, physical computing (e.g. Arduino, Micro:bit, etc.), basic hand tools, power tools and shop safety. This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone inclined to grow their own skills as they inspire and guide students in exploring design, technology and engineering through hands-on projects and creative problem-solving.

Archer’s Teaching Apprenticeship offers new and aspiring teachers the opportunity to partner with expert educators in the classroom using the latest research on how our students learn and thrive. Apprentices get hands-on experience working alongside master faculty to develop a repertoire of future-facing educational practices.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching with a mentor in your discipline
  • provide teaching coverage across the curriculum
  • Participating in co-curricular school activities,
  • Providing administrative support as necessary
  • Supporting Archer’s IDEA Lab, a makerspace supporting student projects in science, art and engineering.

The Apprentice Program includes:

  • Salary and full benefits
  • Teach up to 2 classes with an experienced mentor teacher
  • Ongoing collaboration on curriculum and lesson design
  • A formalized teacher education program including:
    • Pedagogical instruction on research-based practices
    • Apprentice learning cohort
    • Individualized goal setting and ongoing planning and reflection meetings
    • Formal and informal observations with feedback
    • Resources to develop a repertoire of teaching tools and routines
  • Participation in all internal Archer PD
  • Observation and collaboration with skilled teachers within and beyond subjects
  • Peer support for professional growth, support, and reflection

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Product Design, Computer Science, Engineering, Education, Fine Art, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in two or more of design education, physical computing, fabrication, 3d printing, laser cutting, computer-aided design (CAD), basic electronics, robotics, and a willingness to learn in all areas to help support our students.
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably in Middle School or with students of similar age groups.
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student collaboration and exploration.
