We are excited to announce that we are looking for Full-Time Laboratory Aide at our NY Pathology Lab in Pearl River, NY.
About the Role
The Laboratory (Lab) Aide/ Assistant supports the Laboratory with all clerical and ancillary duties and keeps all equipment ready to run for patient output. Lab Aide duties include, but are not limited to, performing equipment maintenance, Laboratory inventory, ordering supplies, receiving and unpacking packages, and other technical procedures performed in the Lab such as embedding formalin-fixed blocks and reviewing the quality of the work before it's submitted to Pathology. This position works under the direction of the Lab Manager and follows standard Laboratory procedures and policies.
Essential Responsibilities
· Supports the Histology staff with all clerical and ancillary functions.
· Participate in the following histology tasks: embedding, staining, qcing, filing, cleaning up, etc.
· Ensures that the day-to-day assigned tasks are consistently and accurately completed
· Responsible for Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) charts for all Laboratory equipment.
· Prepares and maintains working solutions for routine H&E staining on automatic strainers and special staining.
· Handles prepare and uploads stains; conducts dehydrating and coverslips slide utilizing manual or automatic systems.
· Performs routine maintenance of equipment and troubleshoots minor equipment failures.
· Logs appropriate information into dedicated Lab logbooks and forms.
· Perform QC of specimens. Routinely checks and verifies that surgical case numbers match blocks and slides; prints labels as appropriate
· Prepares, cleans, sterilizes, and maintains laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments used in all areas of the Lab
· Handles and disposes of specimens and chemical waste based on the Laboratory's process.
· Responsible for filing, tracking, retrieval, and accurate record keeping.
· Verify expiration dates, shortages, and maintenance of supplies within the Laboratory: maintains supply inventory, including package receiving and supply chain requests, and submitting orders to purchasing department, in accordance with established policies and procedures
· Unpacks and verifies orders received and stocks inventory areas.
· Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problem(s) or immediately notify the manager
· Report any non-compliance behaviors to the Laboratory Manager
· Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information concerning patients, physicians, employees, clients, vendors, and the company.
· Abides by the policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, testing, security, administration, and confidentiality of the Patients and Practice under OSHA and HIPAA Laws and safeguards guidelines.
· Assists as required on performing other related duties and special projects.
· Complies with all Lab SOPs and Regulatory Agencies.

Education and Experience
· High school diploma or GED.
· One year of previous lab experience is preferred.
· Willingness to work shift work and overtime is required.
· Could be required to work during Weekends/Evenings/Holidays.

Work Environment
· This job operates in a professional laboratory environment. This role routinely uses standard pathology laboratory equipment.
· May have exposure to high noise levels, fumes, and bio­hazardous material/chemicals, including formalin, xylene, and alcohols in the lab environment.
· OSHA Risk Category I: Tasks that may involve exposure to blood, body fluids, and human tissue
· Required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) as directed by Management and OSHA
Physical Demands
· Visual acuity and analytical skill to distinguish fine detail
· Manual dexterity to use standard laboratory equipment and perform grossing techniques
· Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision
· Must possess the ability to perform repetitive motion
· Must have the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods
· Ability to handle, transport, and dispose of hazardous waste material from a satellite location to a waste drum.
· May be required to handle blood-borne pathogens and general laboratory reagents
· Overtime may be required. Weekends, evenings, and early shifts may be required
· Ability to lift to 30 pounds

Days/Hours
– This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday 12pm-8pm or 2pm-10pm. May be asked to work varying or longer schedules, if needs require. Overtime may be required.

Dress attire required – Scrubs or Business casual.
