Lab Associate (Accessioner) - Simply Biotech

OVERVIEW

Immediate opening for a Lab Associate (Accessioner) in Vista, CA who possesses:

  • 1+ year of laboratory experience; accessioning experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Science preferred
  • Data entry experience in a laboratory setting preferred

FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Lab Associate to support sample receiving, accessioning, aliquoting, data entry, sample storage, and pre-analytical laboratory activities. This role is responsible for accurately unpacking and verifying incoming samples and paperwork, entering sample information into the Laboratory Information System, preparing aliquots, managing freezer storage, performing routine equipment maintenance, and following all SOPs and safety procedures. The ideal candidate will have laboratory experience, strong attention to detail, data entry accuracy, and the ability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule with flexibility for overtime as needed.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Receiving, unpacking, and verifying incoming laboratory samples and paperwork
  • Performing accessioning of laboratory samples according to established guidelines
  • Completing accurate data entry of sample information using the Laboratory Information System
  • Managing freezer sample storage
  • Supporting sample storage, retrieval, and organization
  • Assisting with pre-analytical laboratory activities as needed
  • Washing red blood cells and freezing them for MTX assays
  • Centrifuging samples and preparing aliquots
  • Operating the Beckman Coulter Automate 2550 as needed
  • Preparing reagents, including 70% EtOH, distilled water, and 10% bleach
  • Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Maintaining temperature logs
  • Following all applicable SOPs required to perform assigned tasks
  • Following all safety policies and procedures
  • Communicating effectively with internal personnel
  • Supporting laboratory workflow and sample processing needs
  • Performing other duties as assigned

The selected candidate will also possess:

  • High school diploma required
  • Bachelor's degree, associate degree, or college coursework in Science preferred
  • 1+ year of laboratory experience preferred
  • Accessioning experience preferred
  • Data entry experience in a laboratory setting preferred
  • Prior experience in biobanking and sample management preferred
  • Freezer storage and sample retrieval experience preferred
  • Experience using a Laboratory Information System preferred
  • Ability to use general office equipment, including computer, telephone, copier, and related equipment
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to follow SOPs and safety procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal personnel
  • Ability to work onsite in Vista, CA
  • Ability to work Tuesday through Saturday on a full-time schedule
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and overtime hours as needed

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while entering sample information and reviewing laboratory records
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout laboratory, sample processing, and storage areas as needed
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for accessioning, aliquoting, data entry, reagent preparation, sample handling, and standard laboratory tasks
  • Ability to visually inspect samples, paperwork, labels, temperature logs, and laboratory documentation
  • Ability to work with laboratory samples, reagents, freezers, centrifuges, laboratory equipment, and pre-analytical processing materials
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks related to sample receiving, accessioning, aliquoting, data entry, storage, and retrieval
  • Ability to communicate by phone, email, and in person throughout the workday
  • Ability to work in a laboratory environment while following SOPs, safety policies, and applicable laboratory procedures
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment as needed
