How much do lda jobs pay per hour?

As of Aug 19, 2026, the average hourly pay for lda in the United States is $20.26, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $17.31 and $22.60 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is an LDA?

Legal Document Assistants (LDAs) are professionals authorized to help people prepare legal documents, but they are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice or represent clients in court. LDAs assist with paperwork for matters such as divorce, wills, trusts, and other legal filings, making the process more accessible and affordable for individuals who do not require full legal representation. They are regulated in some states, like California, where they must register and meet specific qualifications. Clients benefit from LDAs by saving on legal fees while ensuring documents are correctly prepared and filed.

What are the typical responsibilities of an LDA?

As a Legal Document Assistant (LDA), you can expect a variety of responsibilities throughout the week, including preparing and filing legal documents, assisting clients with paperwork, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. LDAs often work closely with clients to gather necessary information and explain document requirements, while also collaborating with attorneys or paralegals when needed. Time management and attention to detail are crucial, as you may handle multiple cases at once and need to meet strict filing deadlines. This role offers exposure to different areas of law and the opportunity to build valuable client service skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an LDA?

To thrive as a lawyer, you need a law degree, strong analytical and research skills, and a license to practice law. Familiarity with legal research databases, case management software, and document drafting tools is typically required. Excellent communication, negotiation, and critical thinking abilities set outstanding lawyers apart. These skills are crucial for interpreting laws, advocating for clients, and achieving successful legal outcomes.
