The purpose of this position is to provide customer service, process payments received and serve as functional backup to the Financial Technician III in the operations area of Finance under the supervision of the Billing & Collections Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Provide customer service for utility customers, business owners and other City personnel, in person and over the phone.
  • Maintain cash drawer, balanced daily, to include payments received over-the-counter, through the mail, via credit card or other electronic means.
  • Assist in preparation of utility delinquent payment processing lists and letters
  • Process business license applications for new and existing businesses.

Minimum Training and Experience Required

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year responsible clerical experience with public contact.
  • Previous experience in a billing or customer service environment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of computer systems, email, spreadsheet & word processing software.

Work Environment

The office environment is typical with no unusual requirements. Some exposure to irate customers in person and via phone may cause some discomfort, but pose no risk of injury. Some travel between City facilities may be required.
