Position Overview

The KSL Broadcast Engineer is responsible for a wide variety of tasks, tools, and
equipment that bring KSL TV to our viewing audience. This position includes working with editors and producers, server administration, computer networking, fibre optics, LTO tape archives, signal flow, microwave technology, satellite uplink and downlink, mountain site broadcasting and equipment maintenance and installation, 3D printing, Audio over IP, Video over IP, live and pre-recorded special events, audio workflows, video workflows, cloud computing, streaming services, video encoding, collaboration with NBC and syndicated content providers, and various other tasks related to media production and broadcast.
Note: Work configurations are subject to change based on business needs and at company discretion.
  • This position is an onsite role that requires the employee to regularly work at our Salt Lake City site.
What You Will Do:
Primary job duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintaining equipment and responding to support calls.
  • Implementing new builds and construction of new systems.
  • Troubleshooting signal issues and collaborating with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Travel to various locations in Utah to maintain our signal paths.
  • Supporting remote broadcasting events.
  • Must have working knowledge of LAN/WAN/VPN networking; Audio over IP, Video over IP, and VOIP technologies is a plus
  • Perform other related duties and functions as assigned by the Chief Engineer
  • Responsible for installation and maintenance of Broadcast, Audio, Streaming and Information Technology Equipment
Skills and Experience We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education in a related field.
  • Experienced work in a media environment (video editing, audio mixing, media production, photography, videography, or live productions)
  • 5 years of experience in either system administration, media production, or networking.
  • Solid understanding of signal flow, computer drawing software, and diagraming.
  • Understanding of computer networking, ports, fibre optic connectivity, and connection protocols.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to collaborate with various teams in the organization.
  • Strong presentation, oral, and written skills.
  • Must be goal-oriented and self-motivated with proven capability of independently organizing, performing work, and assuring follow-through
Physical Demands
  • Receive, process, and maintain information through oral and/or written communication effectively.
  • Manual dexterity and fine motor skills to operate computer keys and general office equipment. Ability to work on a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, move, and carry heavier loads.
  • Drive company vehicles
  • Perform installation of large items
Compensation
$28.00 – 36.00 per hour. Hourly rate to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to evaluation of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant along with internal equity and alignment with market data.
