Job description

Position Title:

Litho Second Printing Press Operator (K&B & KBA Presses) 

Pay Rate:

$27.03/hr.

Category/Shift:

Hourly Full-Time (8-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, must be available for any shift)

The Job You Will Perform:

    Follow all IP Safety, PPE, IES and ZES procedures while also helping to enforce and instill a "SAFETY FIRST" culture within the company.
    Keep and enforce clean work area, free of clutter, and report any and all safety hazards immediately.
    Communicate with the Press crews, Sheeter, Stackdown, and Litho prep departments, and promote safety and proper PPE usage, efficiencies, quality etc. while maintaining a professional demeanor.
    Have a basic understanding of math, conversions and measurements. 
    Be able to communicate and train fellow press associates in a professional manner.
    Load paper into the feeder via electronic pallet jack and conveyor system.
    Set up the printing press for exact specifications according to the job order; obtain approval via customer press check with the client and Supervisor if applicable. 
    Hang plates, put in proper ink as required, monitoring usage, mix fountain solution to proper ph and conductivity.
    Make adjustments on press as needed to maintain specifications and efficiency.
    Understand and perform routine IES maintenance including roller settings and ink fountain settings.
    Understand, recall, and perform SIP profile importation from prepress to press.
    Ensure the completion of jobs meeting all quality and quantity requirements.
    Properly document and enforce correct waste usage data.
    Follow all QC Protocol Procedures according to the QC process paying special attention to quality control sample pulls in order to ensure quality control. 
    Perform all required "IES" maintenance to machines according to departmental Safety procedures.
    Troubleshoot basic machine problems not requiring ZES. Notify Maintenance before entering a remote call to K&B. Notify Management as needed.
    Complete special projects as assigned, mock-ups and etc.
    Assist other departments as needed depending on job requirements.
    Responsible for the completion of all required records, Workbrain, materials used, EOS reports, documents etc.
    Follow, Enforce, and Comply with all Safety Procedures, work rules, and regulations. 
    Maintain and enforce clean departmental housekeeping standards.
    Complete required training including, but not limited to:  Monthly IP Safety training, OSHA compliance, forklifts, floor jacks and SDS training as needed.
    Other duties as assigned.


Technical Skills Required:

    Must be capable of visually seeing all primary colors.
    Demonstrated working knowledge of the mechanics, machine fundamentals and strong troubleshooting capabilities pertaining to both K&B and KBA presses.
    Have mastered the Feeder and infeed sections of both K&B and KBA presses. (Typically 3 years)
    Broad understanding of G7 Grayscale, Cielab Color Space (dE lab values), Standardization, and Color management.
    Must be able to understand and operate a Spectrophotometer.
    Must have working knowledge of the Press controls touchscreens and MC Scanner and Press Console.
    Must be fluent in using the Koenig & Bauer Qualtronics and Logotronics press software, and Kiwi FFF inventory management and scheduling software.
    Working knowledge of Fountain solution Chemistry (pH and Conductivity), dilution curve, and ink water balance.
    Must be able to identify, and troubleshoot plate sensitivity, toning, misting, and slinging.
     The ability to recognize ink emulsification and troubleshoot dampening issues.
    Must have demonstrated knowledge of Ink fountain key settings and the understanding of ink film thickness related to density.
    Must be able to check the viscosity of aqueous coating using a Zahn cup, and working knowledge of slide angle and the characteristics of in box manufacturing.
    Ink and water Roller and bearing replacement/roller settings "nip" procedures.
    Must be able understand, read, and use a micrometer.
    Must be able to convert decimals to inches and millimeters.
    Understanding Shore scale concept using a durometer gauge.
    Understanding of plate, blanket, and impression cylinder bearer height using a packing Gauge to determine underlayment thickness and proper cylinder pressure.
 

The Skills You Will Bring:

    Proper daily Safety and PPE practices according to IP safety protocols.
    3+ years of experience as floater/feeder on a printing press. 
    The ability to communicate and lead effectively with other employees of the organization and work in a team environment.
    The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to read a ruler. 
    Must have clean driving record and be able to meet forklift training and licensing.
    Maintain a clean and safe work area by 6S standards
