Job Title: Operations Manager

Supervisor: General Manager 

Status: Full-Time, Exempt

Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000

Job Description:

The Operations Manager is the backbone and the face of The Egg’s daily operations.  In this role, you will take full ownership of the front-of-house experience and facilities management, ensuring the venue operates flawlessly.  From welcoming high-profile artists, VIPs, and guests to leading our frontline teams, you will embody the venue’s standards of excellence.  By providing strategic, long-term operational vision and guiding a dedicated team of house managers, you will drive maximum productivity, elevate performance, and cultivate an unforgettable experience for all that pass through our doors.

The Egg seeks a self-starter that is capable of thinking strategically to promote the optimal guest and artist experience while controlling labor and event expenses.  The ideal candidate will be composed under pressure, have strong organizational abilities, detail oriented, experience in the performing arts / music / theater world, business acumen, and a flexible, can-do attitude.


About The Egg:

The Egg itself is owned by the State of New York and managed by the not-for-profit Nelson A. Rockefeller Empire State Plaza Performing Arts Center Corporation. Following a transformative six-month renovation in 2025, 2026 marks a pivotal milestone as we work to “Hatch The Egg” with bold new programs and initiatives. This role joins our team at an inflection point, offering a unique opportunity to contribute fresh ideas and help shape our next chapter of growth.


Responsibilities & Duties include (but are not limited to):

Operations

  • Takes full ownership of the daily operation, preventative maintenance, and long-term care of the facility.  This includes, but is not limited to, full accountability for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, pest control, and janitorial services.
  • Direct all front-of-house event execution logistics, managing the seamless setup and teardown of event spaces to ensure timely transitions and minimizing negative operational friction.
  • Partners strategically with the Production department to align front-of-house logistics with backstage and technical requirements.
  • Advance security, merchandise, and any other non-technical related needs with artists and rental clients.
  • Work with the Production Manager and General Manager to develop financial estimates for all rental events.
  • In conjunction with the General Manager, draft and enforce venue rules and policies that protect the interests of The Egg while promoting a positive guest experience.
  • Act as primary front of house resource for all clients/partners on event days.
  • Anticipate needs of guests and clients, and plan for potential scenarios that could affect the integrity of the event.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all outside front-of-house vendors and contractors.
  • Coordinate access to all Egg facilities and manage relationships for various partners of The Egg including but not limited to New York State Police (NYSP), Office of Fire Prevention and Control (OFPC), and various offices within the Office of General Services (OGS).
  • Responsible for announcing doors at all events and running the house meeting with the GM.


Personnel

  • Responsible for the training, management, and supervision of all guest-facing part-time hourly and contracted labor including but not limited to House Managers, Elevator Operators, Ticket Takers, Security Guards, Cleaning, Merchandise, and Concessions.
  • Oversees the Volunteer Usher program, ensuring a positive experience for all ushers as well as patrons attending the events. Thinking strategically about growing the pool of ushers and recruiting new volunteers.
  • Development and supervision of the security department.


The Operations Manager reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with the Executive Director and Production Manager.  The Operations Manager must work well with the multitude of organizations that utilize the Center's facilities as well as the general public. Because of the nature of the performing arts and corporate use of the facilities, the position requires weekend and evening work as well as occasional early morning schedules.  


Qualities Desired

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Proven leader with strong management and communication skills
  • Proficiency with Google Suite, Google Calendar, Microsoft Office, email.
  • Extensive knowledge of Event Management
  • 2+ years of experience in House/Operations management in a similar capacity


Schedule:  This is a Full-Time position with full benefits including health insurance and pension options. Must be located in Albany or in close proximity to Albany. This role offers the ability to work from home when not needed on site.
