Job description

Who are we hiring?

The Senior Choreography Director for the Knicks City Dancers will be responsible for serving as the lead for the execution of Knicks City Dancers routines and choreography. Additionally, this role will be responsible for developing and overseeing the management team for the Knicks City Kids team and brand. The Senior Choreography Director will collaborate with all facets of the event presentation team, as well as key internal stakeholders such as the creative team, to curate and execute all live Knicks City Dancers performances, as well as any future productions. They will collaborate with the Resident Director/Choreographer for the Rockettes, and help determine how all routines will best be best represented within the Knicks City Dancers brand by utilizing precision and technique, and various dance styles ensuring that all elements meet the Knicks City Dancers standards. The Senior Choreography Director will also assist with brand related initiatives and events that involve the Knicks City Dancers and Knicks City Kids including but not limited to televised special live events and appearances.

What will you do?

  • Provide all services customarily performed by a Senior Choreography Director of a first rate, live professional sports and entertainment production, including, without limitation staging and integrating all technical aspects of the show as well as budget creation and management.
  • Collaborate on the hiring, casting, and evaluation decisions of all Knicks City Dance team members including Assistant Choreographers, Dance Captains, and Assistant Dance Captains.
  • Collaborate with the event presentation team, musical director, lighting designer, and sound engineer to articulate theatrical concepts and vision of production to ensure that each performance seamlessly ties into the game production.
  • Lead all pre-production, workshops, and Knicks City Dancers rehearsals
  • Ensure professional standards are maintained, providing instruction, critique, correction, and on-going support as needed.
  • Construct dance charts and plot performer entrances/exits for staging purposes; Analyze and adjust placement of dancers, location of props, etc.
  • Develop a coaching plan and a rehearsal schedule within limited production timelines.
  • Access the learning levels of all performers and develop best strategy for coaching to maximize their talents; schedule and provide additional training, as necessary.
  • Evaluate cast performance and productivity throughout the show run and adjust accordingly.
  • Assist when needed with the Dancer Development programs, including scouting and outreach with a focus on diversity and inclusion
  • Participate in public relations as requested.
  • Provide exceptional experiences for our guests, partners, and team members, including by adhering to our appearance and presentation guidelines while on-site.  

What do you need to succeed?

  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8-15 years of experience working on large scale/budget productions and managing diverse dance routines.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in different dance techniques, including both historical and contemporary styles. Must be proficient in multiple genres, styles, and aesthetics.
  • Must have ability to adapt sequences, or create new routines with short notice, and teach them quickly to dancers in a disciplined approach.
  • Ability to lead creative and technical processes.
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while managing multiple tasks. 
  • Demonstrate integrity, tact, diplomacy and a commitment to company values, and principles while ensuring the upmost consistency. 
  • Possess exceptional attention to detail and strong follow-up skills. 
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and time management skills. 
  • Passion for entertainment, theater, dance, and production. 
  • Familiarity with union agreements, industry pay scales and contract terms. 
  • Adept at supporting a positive, open, approachable, and professional relationship with a diverse group.
  • Skilled at working collaboratively and in a team environment

Special Requirements

  • Flexible hours: work on evenings and weekends may be required
