Patient Care Assistant I - Medical Surgical Floor

Location: Knapp Medical Center - Weslaco, TX

Full - time | Days | 12 - Hour Shifts 

Our Patient Care Assistant  will work in our hospital's Medical Surgical unit, providing general patient care while also supporting continuous heart and vital sign monitoring for cardiac patients.

Knapp Medical Center is an award-winning, not-for-profit hospital in Weslaco, Texas. With 227 beds, the community hospital specializes in emergency care, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, wound care, surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, critical care, and interventional radiology. Knapp serves as the only acute care hospital in the Mid-Valley area, as well as Weslaco's only Level III Trauma Center, Advanced Primary Stroke Center, and Level II Newborn Nursery. Knapp has been providing quality and compassionate healthcare to Mid-Valley residents for 60 years.  More than 300 physicians serve on the hospital's medical staff. Responsibilities
  • The Patient Care Assistant assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic nursing care to all patients and assists in maintenance of a safe environment under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse in charge of the team and/or unit.
Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING

1.    High School Diploma or equivalent.

2.    Current Phlebotomy certification upon hire, preferred.

3.    Current EKG certification upon hire, preferred.

4.    Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current

5.    Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology.

6.    Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physician's office preferred.
