Job description

Job Summary
The Kitting Engineer is responsible for ensuring material readiness and line-side kit delivery to support uninterrupted production execution. This role manages kitting preparation, shortage resolution, inventory accuracy, and coordination across Warehouse, Planning, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams. The Kitting Engineer drives stable material flow, maintains compliance with FIFO/traceability requirements, and improves kitting efficiency through strong shopfloor execution and data-driven problem solving.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations Management
  • Prepare and deliver accurate material kits to production lines based on build plan, BOM, and work order requirements.
  • Monitor kitting execution to support production schedule attainment, WIP readiness, and line stability.
  • Ensure kit accuracy (correct part, quantity, revision, and labeling) and on-time delivery to support daily output targets.
  • Maintain line-side replenishment and ensure smooth material flow across shifts.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy through cycle counts, reconciliation, and strict transaction discipline in ERP/MES systems.
  • Ensure compliance with FIFO, lot control, shelf-life handling, and traceability requirements.
  • Support audit readiness by maintaining proper documentation and storage compliance.
People Leadership & Team Development
  • Track daily kitting workload, manpower coverage, and material readiness status; proactively flag risks impacting production.
  • Provide on-floor guidance to operators and line leaders to reinforce standard work, safety practices, and quality requirements.
  • Assist with operator onboarding, cross-training, and skill matrix updates to improve flexibility and coverage.
  • Help maintain discipline in attendance, task assignment, and shift handoff execution.

Quality & Safety Compliance
  • Ensure assembly operations follow SOPs, ESD controls, safety regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Ensure materials are stored, labeled, and transported in compliance with internal quality requirements and customer standards.
Reporting & Leadership Communication
  • Prepare daily/weekly production summaries kitting status, shortages, inventory accuracy and communicate progress, risks, and action items to management.
  • Maintain clear documentation of issues, root causes, and follow-up actions; ensure closure with defined owners and timelines.
  • Support leadership meetings by providing accurate data, line status, and improvement recommendations.
Continuous Improvement
  • Drive improvements in kitting efficiency by optimizing picking routes, staging layout, packing methods, and line-side delivery processes.
  • Reduce mis-picks, rework, material handling waste, and downtime through Kaizen/5S/standard work.
  • Provide data-driven insights to improve material flow performance and prevent recurring issues.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3+ years of kitting management experience in the electronics manufacturing industry; OR an Associate's degree (or higher) with 1+ year of production management experience in electronics manufacturing.
  • Strong ability to manage shopfloor execution, prioritize issues, and drive quick recovery actions under pressure.
  • Good communication and coordination skills to work effectively across multiple functions.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing quality concepts and problem-solving methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
Technical & Professional Skills
  • Strong understanding of kitting workflows and related operational techniques, including material preparation, line-side delivery, and kit accuracy control.
  • Knowledge of quality control systems and standards, with the ability to develop and execute basic quality control plans to prevent material-related issues (mis-pick, wrong part, labeling errors).
  • Familiar with ERP/MES systems and manufacturing data analysis tools to support daily material readiness tracking and issue resolution.
  • Possession of an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training certificate
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) for data analysis, reporting, and presentations.
Language & Cross-cultural Capability
  • Multilingual communication skills preferred, including English, Spanish, and Mandarin Chinese, with the ability to work in cross-cultural teams.
Leadership & Problem Solving
  • Strong capability to motivate frontline teams and handle conflicts professionally in a production environment.
  • Ability to quickly identify issues on the line and drive effective resolution to protect schedule and delivery performance.
Work Authorization & Scheduling Requirements
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to support flexible working hours, including shift changes, weekends, and overtime as needed to support production and urgent escalations.
