About Miriam's Kitchen: Miriam's Kitchen is a mission-driven nonprofit working to end chronic homelessness in Washington, D.C through meaningful relationships, high-quality means and holistic support services. Our kitchen is more than a place to prepare food; it is a community space where dignity, nourishment, and connection come together. Â
Position Summary: The Cook & In-Kind Donation Assistant supports daily kitchen operations through food preparation, meal service, inventory support, and in-kind donation coordination. The role is responsible for preparing high-quality meals in accordance with established recipes and food safety standards while also assisting with the receiving organization, tracking and transport coordination of donated goods.Â
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Food Preparation and Service
- Prepare and cook menu items according to established recipes, production schedules, and kitchen standards.Â
- Ensure meals meet expectations for quality, presentation, portion control, and consistency.Â
- Assist with food prep and service to support daily meal production and kitchen workflow.Â
Food Safety and Kitchen Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary work environment.Â
- Follow all applicable food safety, workplace health standards, and sanitation regulations.Â
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.Â
Inventory, Receiving, and Team Support
- Assist with food preparation, inventory management, receiving, and proper storage of deliveries.Â
- Monitor food supplies and notify management of inventory needs in a timely manner.Â
- Collaborate with kitchen staff and management to support smooth daily operations.Â
- Assist with donation pickups.Â
- Assist with maintaining inventory.Â
Team Support and General Responsibilities
- Collaborate with kitchen staff and management to support smooth daily operations.Â
- Provide operational support where needed to help the team meet meal production and service goals.Â
- Perform other duties as assigned.Â
Requirements
Qualifications
- Previous cooking or food service experience preferred.Â
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.Â
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.Â
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.Â
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50-60 pounds.Â
- Must be available to work holidays that fall on weekdays.Â
