What is a kitchen manager assistant manager?

Kitchen Manager Assistant Managers are professionals who support the kitchen manager in overseeing the daily operations of a restaurant or food service kitchen. Their responsibilities typically include supervising kitchen staff, ensuring food safety and quality standards are met, managing inventory and supplies, and assisting with scheduling and training. They play a key role in maintaining efficient kitchen operations and helping deliver a positive dining experience for customers. This hands-on role involves supervising staff, managing inventory, overseeing food preparation, and ensuring every customer enjoys high-quality, timely meals. You’ll combine culinary expertise with leadership skills to maintain our kitchen’s standards of excellence.

This full-time Assistant Manager position offers a consistent 48-hour work week, including 8 hours paid at overtime rates each week—giving you the opportunity to earn more with a predictable schedule. If you're looking for a rewarding leadership role with strong earning potential, career growth opportunities, and a team that values your contributions, we'd love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Supervise kitchen staff and oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring recipes, portion sizes, and preparation standards are consistently followed
  • Prepare gourmet dishes from scratch, particularly focusing on Italian cuisine, in collaboration with the kitchen team
  • Assist the Kitchen Manager with hiring, training, scheduling, and other administrative duties
  • Order kitchen materials and ingredients based on store menu needs
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment while ensuring compliance with all food safety policies
  • Monitor inventory levels and conduct daily and weekly inventories
  • Collaborate with department managers to develop menu items, pricing, and portion sizes for meals, events, and catering orders
  • Train employees on the safe operation of kitchen equipment, proper handling of ingredients, and adherence to safety standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the kitchen and store operations

What We’re Looking For:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in a restaurant or back-of-house environment
  • Strong knowledge of food safety, storage, handling, and preparation standards
  • Extensive experience preparing a variety of dishes, with a focus on Italian cuisine
  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and train kitchen staff
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • High motivation and ability to think quickly in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to speak, read, and understand English

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), 50% off lunch, 25% off in-store shopping, and more!

Working Conditions:

This role requires standing and moving for extended periods, with occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs (or more with assistance). You’ll work around ovens, freezers, coolers, and cleaning agents, with exposure to noise from kitchen equipment. Frequent bending, reaching, and other physical activity is required.
