Description:

Afternoon Kindergarten Assistant (26-27 School Year)

Mountain Sage Community School, a Waldorf-inspired, public charter school serving grades Kโ€“8, is excited to welcome a warm, attentive, and dedicated Kindergarten Assistant Teacher to our early childhood team for the 2026โ€“2027 school year. If you are passionate about supporting young children through play, imagination, rhythm, and meaningful relationshipsโ€”and enjoy working collaboratively with a lead teacher to create a nurturing, orderly, and joyful classroomโ€”we invite you to join our vibrant learning community.

At Mountain Sage, kindergarten is a joyful, developmentally grounded environment rooted in rhythm, storytelling, movement, artistic expression, and reverence for childhood. The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher plays an essential role in supporting the daily life of the classroom and ensuring a safe, warm, and well-organized learning environment for our youngest students.

The successful candidate supports daily classroom routines, including morning and afternoon transitions, circle time, snack, rest, and seasonal celebrations, helping to maintain a calm, rhythmic flow throughout the day. This role includes supervising and caring for children during classroom activities, outdoor play, meals, and transitions, with close attention to safety, health, and well-being.

Kindergarten assistants help facilitate creative, hands-on, and movement-based activities that reflect Waldorf early childhood principles. Through gentle guidance and encouragement, they provide individualized support for children's social, emotional, and developmental growth, responding attentively to each child's needs and readiness.

Collaboration is central to this role. The Kindergarten Assistant Teacher works closely with the lead teacher to implement lesson plans, support classroom management, and contribute to a consistent, nurturing classroom culture. Assistants also help maintain an orderly, clean, and well-prepared classroom environment for daily activities and special events.

Finally, Kindergarten Assistant Teachers foster a strong sense of community by modeling kindness, patience, and respect, contributing to a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere that supports holistic childhood development.

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for Waldorf-inspired education and a desire to deepen your knowledge
  • Successful completion of fingerprinting and background checks
  • Physical capability to stand and sit for extended periods, as well as the ability to learn and play outdoors in various weather conditions

Preferred

  • Experience or training in Waldorf education is highly desirable
  • A minimum of 2 years of classroom experience
  • Relevant coursework in Early Childhood Education

  • Hours are 12:00 PMโ€“ 4:00 PM Monday through Thursday and some Friday afternoon staff meetings during the academic school year
  • Pay range starts at $19.50/hour, dependent upon certification and relevant experience
