What is a Kennel Club?

A Kennel Club is an organization dedicated to the registration, promotion, and regulation of purebred dogs. These clubs often set breed standards, organize dog shows and competitions, and support responsible breeding practices. They also provide resources and education for dog owners and breeders. Examples include The Kennel Club (UK) and the American Kennel Club (AKC) in the United States.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Kennel Club Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Kennel Club Manager, you need skills in animal care, facility management, and knowledge of breed standards, often supported by experience or certification in animal services or kennel operations. Familiarity with kennel management software, animal health records systems, and compliance with local animal welfare regulations is essential. Strong communication, organizational skills, and a passion for animal welfare help foster positive relationships with pet owners and staff. These abilities ensure the well-being of animals, smooth facility operations, and high-quality service to clients.

What is the difference between Kennel Club vs Pet Care Technician?

AspectKennel ClubPet Care Technician
CertificationsVaries by country, often includes breed and grooming certificationsOften requires pet care or veterinary assistant certifications
Work EnvironmentKennel facilities, animal shelters, breeding establishmentsVeterinary clinics, animal hospitals, pet grooming salons
Industry UsageUsed in breed registration, dog shows, and kennel managementUsed in veterinary and pet care services

The Kennel Club primarily focuses on breed registration, dog shows, and kennel management, often requiring breed-specific knowledge and certifications. Pet Care Technicians work directly with animals in veterinary settings, providing medical and daily care. While both roles involve working with animals, the Kennel Club is more industry and breed-focused, whereas Pet Care Technicians are involved in health and medical care.

What are some common challenges faced by staff working at a Kennel Club, and how can they be managed effectively?

Staff at a Kennel Club often encounter challenges such as managing a diverse range of dog breeds with different temperaments, maintaining high standards of animal care, and ensuring clear communication with pet owners. Effective time management and teamwork are essential, as days can involve supervising dog activities, handling administrative tasks, and responding to unexpected situations like health concerns. Regular training and collaboration with colleagues help staff stay prepared to address these challenges while maintaining a safe and positive environment for both dogs and humans.

Job description

Night owl? Prefer dogs over people?
If you enjoy quiet nights, working independently, and being around dogs instead of dealing with crowds or customers all night, this could be the perfect job for you.
The Wags Club is West LA's trusted cage-free dog daycare and boarding facility, featuring 10,000 square feet of outdoor space and over a decade of five-star care. While most of Los Angeles sleeps, our overnight team keeps our dogs safe, comfortable, and cared for until the morning crew arrives.
This role is ideal for someone calm, responsible, and comfortable working independently through the night.

Who This Job Is Perfect For
• Calm, observant, and dependable
• Comfortable working independently overnight
• Experienced with dogs (kennel, daycare, shelter, or vet setting preferred)
• Physically capable of lifting up to 60 lbs
• Available weekends and holidays when needed
• Okay getting dirty - fur, fluids, and all
Perks
• Free daycare for your dog while you work
• Health, dental, and vision insurance after 60 days
• 4-day workweek with three days off
• Supportive, dog-loving team
• Opportunities for growth within the company
