What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a kennel associate?

To thrive as a Kennel Associate, you need basic animal care knowledge, physical stamina, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with animal handling equipment, cleaning supplies, and sometimes pet care management software is commonly required. Attention to detail, patience, and strong communication with both pets and their owners are valuable soft skills. These abilities ensure animal safety, cleanliness, and a positive experience for both pets and clients in a kennel environment.

Effective time management, strong communication with team members, and adhering to established safety protocols are key to overcoming these challenges. Regular training and a supportive team environment also help ensure both the animals' well-being and a positive workplace experience for associates.

Join Our Pet-Loving Team

Do you love working with dogs and cats? Want to be part of a trusted team that makes pets feel safe, loved, and at home?

We're looking for a Full-Time Kennel Technician (internally called a Pet Pro) to join our team and care for our furry guests at their home away from home.

Who We Are

NVA Pet Resorts is part of National Veterinary Associates (NVA) โ€” the largest private owner of veterinary hospitals and pet resorts in North America, with 1,300+ locations. We're proud to be in an $8B+ industry that continues to grow as pet parents seek premium, trusted care for their furry family members.

At NVA Pet Resorts, our mission is simple: create safe, fun, and loving environments for pets while providing experiences for our clients and team members.

What You'll Do

Your day may include:

  • Walking dogs and supervising playgroups
  • Feeding pets and administering medications
  • Cleaning and sanitizing pet rooms and common areas
  • Monitoring pet health, behavior, and interactions
  • Documenting care notes and communicating with leadership
  • Engaging pets in enrichment activities like fetch, walks, and basic obedience games
  • Comforting shy guests and managing high-energy groups
  • Laundry and general facility upkeep
  • And yes โ€” you'll scoop poop, clean messes, o home with fur on your clothes, and probably get plenty of sloppy kisses.

What We're Looking For

  • We're seeking someone who is:
  • Passionate about dogs and cats
  • Gentle, patient, and safety-focused
  • Comfortable supervising multiple dogs at once
  • Able to recognize and prevent conflicts in playgroups
  • Detail-oriented with strong documentation habits
  • Friendly and comfortable speaking with pet parents
  • Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented

You must be able to:

  • Stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 60 lbs
  • Work indoors and outdoors in various temperatures
  • Handle large and small dogs confidently
  • Work weekends and holidays
  • Be comfortable around pet messes and cleaning products

Work Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Weekend availability required
  • Mondayโ€“Friday shifts
  • Holiday shifts required

Benefits & Perks

  • Health, Dental & Vision
  • Insurance for FT
  • Paid Training
  • Employee Pet Care Discounts
  • Tips
  • Career growth opportunities within NVA
