What is a Kaiser RN Per Diem?

A Kaiser RN Per Diem is a registered nurse who works on an as-needed, flexible basis at Kaiser Permanente healthcare facilities. Per diem nurses are not full-time employees; instead, they fill staffing gaps, cover shifts, or assist during busy periods. They often have the flexibility to choose their shifts, but may not receive the same benefits as full-time staff. These roles require an active RN license and adaptability to work in various clinical settings within Kaiser Permanente's network.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Kaiser RN Per Diem?

To thrive as a Kaiser RN Per Diem, you need a current RN license, strong clinical skills, and experience in acute care or relevant specialties. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic and current BLS/ACLS certifications are typically required. Flexibility, excellent communication, and the ability to quickly adapt to different units make someone stand out in this position. These skills and qualities are crucial to delivering safe, high-quality patient care while efficiently supporting diverse teams in a per diem capacity.

How does a Kaiser RN Per Diem balance flexibility with team integration and patient care responsibilities?

As a Kaiser RN Per Diem, you'll enjoy a flexible work schedule, but it can be challenging to maintain consistency with patient care and team routines since you may not work the same shifts every week. To succeed, it's important to quickly adapt to different units, communicate effectively with full-time staff, and stay up-to-date with protocols and patient information. You'll often fill in during high-demand periods, so being proactive and approachable helps you build rapport and deliver seamless patient care. This role also offers exposure to various specialties, which can be valuable for professional development and networking within Kaiser Permanente.
