Takt is a Vancouver-based full-service creative agency helping ambitious brands craft experiences in digital and analog environments.


We're looking for a team member with proven front-end web development skills in WordPress custom theme development to join our team. This is a full-time role, located in our Vancouver (HQ). Additional consideration if you also know Drupal and/or Shopify.


At Takt, you'll collaborate with a diverse team of talented designers and strategists to build world-class brands, websites and campaigns for our partners. The right candidate is comfortable in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment, has excellent communication skills, and is passionate about development and design.


Roles and Responsibilities


  • Work with the team to produce estimates, establish timeframes, and identify potential roadblocks/risks to successful delivery.
  • Based on project briefs, work with the team to roadmap the development of websites and supporting infrastructure.
  • When executing, strike a balance between functional and aesthetic design. Work efficiently and iteratively to deliver value early and identify/communicate challenges that require input from other team members before they affect timelines/deliverables.
  • Optimize site for speed/usability/accessibility across desktop, tablet and mobile platforms.
  • Work constructively with team members across disciplines through roadblocks and challenges, solving problems and supporting the team while remaining porous to feedback.
  • Test/QA your work as you execute. Seek to understand what 'done' actually means to the team and the client.


Required Experience


  • Experience collaborating with designers to transform high-fidelity mockups into pixel-perfect, responsive web pages.
  • Ability to cleanly plan/architect WordPress sites, balancing client needs and available resources
  • Strong experience with PHP development, including writing clean, efficient, and maintainable code for WordPress themes, plugins, and custom functionality.
  • Experience developing custom blocks for the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg)
  • Proficient in TypeScript, React, and Vue.js, and familiar with their associated frameworks (e.g. Next.js, Nuxt)
  • Experience in planning and executing integrations between websites and other systems (e.g. CRMs, Identity and Access Management services)
  • Experience with integrating and consuming various third-party APIs, including REST and GraphQL.
  • Experience with use of headless CMS platforms (e.g. Contentful, Sanity) is a bonus
  • Strong working knowledge of web accessibility standards and ability to implement experiences that meet these standards and, more importantly, a desire for a greater diversity of people to be able to use them regardless of any specific regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to plan and set up staging and production environments across a variety of infrastructures following best practices
  • Experience/knowledge of security best practices across the SDLC
  • Experience with version control systems and a strong understanding of collaborative development workflows.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with designers, strategists, and clients
  • A proven ability to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, agile environment
