Senior Tax Accountant (Direct Hire) – Richmond, VA


A respected local CPA firm in Richmond, VA is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant to join their growing team on a direct-hire basis. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented tax professional who enjoys working with a diverse client base, tackling complex tax matters, and contributing to a collaborative, team-driven environment.


Position Overview
The Senior Tax Accountant will be responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns, conducting tax research and planning, and serving as a key point of contact for clients. This individual will also play a leadership role in mentoring junior staff and supporting overall team development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Preparation & Review: Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, individuals, and fiduciaries.
  • Tax Compliance & Planning: Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations while identifying planning opportunities to minimize client tax liability.
  • Client Advisory & Relationship Management: Serve as a trusted advisor and primary contact for clients, addressing inquiries and providing strategic tax guidance.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Review work completed by junior staff and provide ongoing training, feedback, and support for professional growth.
  • Audit & Regulatory Support: Assist with IRS and state tax examinations, including responding to notices and information requests.
  • Process Improvement: Contribute to internal process enhancements, including the implementation and optimization of tax software and tools.


Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Experience: 3–5+ years of progressive public accounting experience
  • Certification: CPA license or active pursuit of CPA designation strongly preferred
