The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an experienced Software Systems Engineer to develop, integrate, and test satellite ground system solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining ground system architecture, coordinating interdisciplinary engineering efforts, managing requirements, risks, interfaces, and configurations, and ensuring cohesive technical execution across multiple teams. This mid to senior-level position is ideal for candidates with a technical foundation in software development paired with systems engineering expertise, strong analytical and communication skills, and a proven ability to guide multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.

The Strategic & Military Space Division delivers advanced satellite sensors and ground systems that support the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. Our division is a key component of national security, providing technological solutions and expert mission support. Key Responsibilities:
  • Leads cross-functional coordination across software, hardware, and support teams, manage ground integration and interfaces, and ensure technical alignment, schedule execution, and compliance with program requirements
  • Defines subsystem architecture and interfaces, allocate functional responsibilities, support solution development and deployment, and ensure seamless integration across the ground system through effective communication and attention to detail
  • Provides independent assessment, analysis, and technical recommendations to support system compatibility and integration with external space and ground interfaces
  • Supports requirements development and verification, CONOPS and operational procedure development, and rehearsal and mission readiness documentation and activities
  • Creates and maintains programmatic and technical documentation to support reviews and milestone events
  • Supports Program Manager and Lead Systems Engineer by identifying and mitigating risks and communicating status and resource needs
  • Directs support of the government customer that involves regular interaction and a high level of professionalism
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related technical field (e.g., software engineering, systems engineering, aerospace engineering, or related science) and 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Must be a US citizen and eligible for a DoW Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Experience in software development using programming languages, technologies and tools including C#, C++ or Python
  • Experience with architecting, implementing or integrating multiple enterprise software applications into cloud and/or hardware hosted environments
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and foster collaboration across cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, test engineering, and scientists
  • Experience with managing risks, interfaces, configurations on medium-complexity programs
  • Proficiency in developing and creating system documentation such as specifications, ICDs, system architecture documents, and block/sequence diagrams
  • Strong technical problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail, while maintaining a system-level perspective and managing multiple priorities
  • Capable of presenting technical concepts in design reviews to technical and non-technical audiences
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with satellite ground system components, such as satellite command and control, communications, or mission planning systems
  • Hold an active DoW Top Secret Security Clearance and be SAP eligible

  • $119,000 - $178,000
    • Salary commensurate based on education and experience
