Systems Administrator

Are you an experienced IT professional who thrives on solving complex technical challenges and building reliable technology infrastructure? Washington County is seeking a Systems Administrator to lead the management of our critical server environment, enterprise systems, and data infrastructure. This is an opportunity to play a key role in supporting the technology that keeps county services running for employees and the public every day.

What You'll Do:

As our Systems Administrator, you'll oversee the design, implementation, maintenance, and security of the County's server infrastructure while serving as a technical leader within the Information Technology Department. You'll work on projects that directly impact County operations and mentor junior IT staff.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administer Windows and Linux servers, virtual environments, and enterprise storage systems.
  • Manage Active Directory, OpenLDAP, databases, internet domains, and server applications.
  • Plan, implement, and maintain disaster recovery and backup solutions.
  • Monitor system performance and recommend hardware and software improvements.
  • Coordinate with IT staff on networking, security, firewalls, VPNs, and infrastructure planning.
  • Provide advanced technical support and training to county employees.
  • Evaluate new technologies and work with vendors to procure hardware and software.
  • Supervise and mentor a Junior Systems Administrator.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Administration, Management Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration or computer operations (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience with:
    • Windows and Linux Server Administration
    • VMware/vSphere or Proxmox virtualization
    • Storage Arrays and SAN technologies
    • Active Directory/OpenLDAP
    • Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL
    • Scripting languages such as Bash, PHP, or JavaScript
  • Strong troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills
