Your work environment at EXP

Join EXP's Building Engineering Services Group in Cambridge, ON as a Project Technologist/Building Science Specialist and play a key role in delivering highquality building solutions. In this role, you will support building evaluations and the development of practical, technically sound solutions for residential, multifamily, commercial, and new construction projects. Responsibilities will include assessing existing buildings, contributing to repair and rehabilitation designs, execution of Reserve Fund Studies and Condition Assessments, and supporting upgrades or modifications required for new uses or equipment. You will be expected to manage multiple assignments, maintain strong attention to detail, and communicate effectively with both internal teams and clients.

  • Conduct site reviews to document conditions and identify performance or durability concerns
  • Assess building data to diagnose deficiencies and recommend appropriate repair or improvement strategies
  • Stay informed on developments in building science, sustainability practices, and applicable codes
  • Support senior staff in providing technical direction to junior team members and clients
  • Prepare clear technical reports and review documentation produced by junior staff
  • Complete building condition assessments, performance audits, Bulletin 19 reviews, asset evaluations, reserve fund studies, and coordinate repair or rehabilitation work
  • Develop specifications and drawings for restoration, rehabilitation, and design projects
  • Measure and document building dimensions onsite and from drawings
  • Interpret existing construction details and produce accurate handsketched representations when needed
  • Liaise with clients, maintain strong relationships, and contribute to business development activities
  • Mentor junior staff and support their technical development
  • Assist in preparing proposals for building science projects

  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, materials, and building systems
  • Skilled in AutoCAD and proficient with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in calculations, measurements, and documentation
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a project team
  • Comfortable adapting to shifting priorities and project needs
  • Selfdriven, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks at once
  • Demonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and integrity in all interactions
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in engineering or engineering technology with a focus on Building Science
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience in a consulting engineering setting, with involvement in building science or structural restoration projects and/or team coordination
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable vehicle

Physical & Site Work Requirements: 

This position involves a combination of office work and onsite building inspections, which may include climbing, working at heights, and handling equipment up to 50 pounds. Strong focus, clear vision, and attention to safety are essential when assessing conditions, interacting with clients, and preparing reports. Travel to project sites is required, with occasional overtime based on project needs.

The position combines office-based responsibilities with regular field work at project sites.

The salary range for this role is between $56,456.00-$74,837.00. The actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
