Who are we looking for?

Due to the continued growth GHD is looking for a Structural Lead Engineer & Team Leader to join our growing Canadian Operations. This position will support our Design Delivery Organization for multi-discipline projects in various industries including rail, stations and transportation facilities, water/wastewater treatment plants, energy, solid waste, food, and agricultural, environmental and other industrial buildings. This role will collaborate and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, regional team leads across DDO Canada West, Canada, North America and GHD's global network.

The successful candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead in the execution and delivery of existing and new projects in a design build environment to advance design packages by providing value added design solutions in conformance with operator requirements and client/end user/project output specifications.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the structural design, including buildings, retaining walls, heavy foundations, pre-cast concrete structures and structural steel structures.
  • Demonstrate extensive experience in structural design.
  • Ensure timely completion of project deliverables and able to manage several projects at once and determine priorities, including sound judgment and decisiveness.
  • Produce engineering drawings and details from conception to final design, according to established standards and procedures for a wide variety of steel and concrete structures.
  • Supervise CAD staff junior and support staff, prepare construction specifications tender and contract packages, and conduct site inspections of existing structures as well as those under construction.
  • Communicate and work with other project team members to provide quality service to clients to ensure that all documentation conforms to client/company standards.
  • Prepare effective proposals seeking targeted project opportunities.
  • Develop and implement QA/QC processes for project work.
  • Technical leader and mentor to junior staff.

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
  • 15+ years of diverse structural engineering experience.
  • Project Management experience demonstrating effective and practical project management skills.
  • Conversant with National Building Code - NBC and provincial building codes, CSA codes, AREMA, CHBDC.
  • Working knowledge of various municipal and technical specifications and standards.
  • Ability to take ownership and accountability for work being completed.
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to develop effective and trustworthy relationships both with clients and within the organization.
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong computer skills including experience in structural analysis and design software (SAP 2000, ETABS, SAFE and ROBOT), AutoCAD, and MS Office.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent report and proposal writing skills.
  • Positive attitude, good communication and interpersonal skills.
