Job description

Structural Engineer – Post Frame & Modular Construction
Location: Brandon, Manitoba
Position Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Relocation Assistance Available

The Opportunity
Our client is an established and growing manufacturer of post frame and modular building solutions and is looking for a Structural Engineer to join their team in Brandon, Manitoba.
This is a hands-on engineering role with a strong focus on estimating, structural design and technical support. You will work closely with sales, estimating, drafting and production to develop practical, cost-effective solutions for a variety of building projects.
The ideal candidate enjoys being involved early in the project lifecycle, helping determine how a building should be designed, what it will require structurally and how it can be built efficiently.
For candidates currently located outside of Brandon, relocation assistance will be provided.
What You'll Do
  • Support the estimating process by reviewing plans, specifications and structural requirements
  • Prepare preliminary structural designs and engineering calculations for post frame and modular projects
  • Assist with material requirements, structural considerations and project feasibility during the estimating stage
  • Design and review wood-frame and post frame structural systems, connections, foundations and related components
  • Review, approve and stamp structural drawings within your professional scope
  • Work closely with drafting and design teams to review drawings and provide engineering direction
  • Partner with sales and estimating on technical questions and more complex project opportunities
  • Develop practical, cost-effective solutions that consider both engineering requirements and manufacturability
  • Support production and construction teams when technical questions arise
  • Review revisions and provide engineering support throughout the project lifecycle
  • Complete occasional site inspections to review construction, existing conditions or structural concerns
  • Prepare field reports and recommendations when required
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, engineering standards and regulatory requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Manitoba, or eligible to obtain registration in Manitoba
  • Engineers currently registered elsewhere in Canada who are eligible for Manitoba registration are encouraged to apply
  • Registration in additional Canadian provinces would be considered an asset
  • Experience in structural design within wood-frame, post frame, modular, residential, agricultural or light commercial construction
  • Strong understanding of structural loads, connections, foundations and building systems
  • Ability to review, approve and stamp structural drawings
  • Experience supporting estimating, costing or preliminary project design would be a strong asset
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting architectural and construction drawings
  • Practical understanding of how engineering decisions impact material costs, manufacturing and field construction
  • Strong communication skills and comfortable working with sales, customers, contractors and internal teams
  • Willingness to complete occasional site visits as required
Why Consider This Opportunity? This is a great opportunity for an engineer who wants to be more involved in the business and construction side of engineering rather than working exclusively in a traditional consulting environment.
You'll have the opportunity to influence projects from the initial estimate and design through manufacturing and construction, while working directly with the people responsible for selling and building them.
The company is open to candidates from across Canada and will provide relocation assistance for the right candidate to move to Brandon, Manitoba.
