Client Overview:
Our client is looking to add a Jr. Scientist to their team. Success in this role will depend on a solid understanding of general chemistry, laboratory operations, and safety practices, along with strong attention to detail and comfort using standard laboratory equipment and computer software.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$23/hr - $24/hr
Position Overview:
The Jr. Scientist supports biodegradation analysis and material characterization testing by preparing analytical samples under the general direction of senior technical staff. The position follows established lab protocols and experimental procedures, accurately records experimental data, and adheres to all laboratory safety rules and regulations. The Jr. Scientist requires close collaboration with a supervisor to understand project goals and scope, set task priorities, and coordinate with other scientists in the laboratory.
Responsibilities of the Jr. Scientist:
  • Perform sample preparation to purify testing substances.
  • Conduct bench-level experiments in the materials characterization laboratory.
  • Regularly use fume hoods, analytical balances, centrifuges, separatory funnels, and other standard laboratory equipment.
  • Record experimental data in laboratory notebooks and enter data into computer software.
  • Discuss experimental details and results with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Effectively and safely execute assigned projects.
Required Experience/Skills for the Jr. Scientist:
  • Quick learner with strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with computer software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Experience/Skills for the Jr. Scientist:
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience through research projects, internships, or prior employment.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and coworkers to complete assigned projects.
  • Experience with separation techniques (e.g., separatory funnels, centrifugation) and handling organic solvents.
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or another laboratory-based scientific discipline is required.
