Your Opportunity
As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you'll bring your experience in highways, streets, and roadway design to lead and support a wide range of projects-from conceptual planning through final design and construction. You'll manage the design and delivery of transportation projects while working independently on smaller assignments and collaboratively on larger initiatives. This role involves applying advanced knowledge, sound engineering principles, and best practices to solve complex problems. You'll guide junior staff, maintain project schedules and budgets, and potentially support proposals to grow our business. The role of a Senior Transportation Engineer is to work independently on smaller projects, and as a team member of a larger project. You will lead the design of assigned projects to ensure reliability, resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and prepare complex engineering designs, plans, and drawings for a variety of projects, including urban and rural roadways, highways, and intersections
  • Apply advanced knowledge of transportation engineering principles and stay current on evolving methods and technologies.
  • Coordinate effectively with Project Managers, multidisciplinary teams, and clients.
  • Responsible for the design, quality reviews, and sealing of assigned projects.
  • Supervise and mentor engineers, CAD staff, and junior team members, providing leadership, guidance, and professional development.

Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems using sound judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Proficiency with CADD technologies, including MicroStation, PowerGEOPAK, and OpenRoads 3D modeling tools.
  • Strong understanding of design and plan production processes, particularly within Illinois jurisdictions, including IDOT and ISTHA standards and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills-both verbal and written-with the ability to convey ideas, design issues, and solutions clearly.
  • Ability to review the work of others for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design standards.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills and a commitment to meeting project deadlines and budgets.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated with a positive attitude and a passion for team success.

Education and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Civil Engineering, Transportation, or a related field is required.
  • Professional Licensure: Illinois PE required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in highway/roadway design is preferred.

About the Team
Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
