We're seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with a minimum of 3 years experience to support our Bloomfield, NJ office. If you are someone with diverse experience, including transportation projects, preferably for NJDOT, NJ Turnpike or county agencies. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, for one or more Dewberry offices, including highway, bridge, building, coastal resiliency and flood protection, rail, dam, and pavement design projects. Responsibilities
  • Provide field oversight of subsurface investigation programs, including soil borings, field classification of soils and rock, in-situ testing, geologic mapping, and geophysical testing
  • Interprets laboratory test results to determine design parameters
  • Develop and provide oversight of geotechnical instrumentation programs and data collection including conventional piezometers, inclinometers, extensometers, and tiltmeters.
  • Evaluates, selects and determines appropriate foundation solutions for complex sites
  • Performs geotechnical and foundation related designs calculations for transportation projects including slope stability, settlement, deep and shallow foundations, retaining walls, and support of excavation systems.
  • Prepares Subsurface Exploration and Soils Laboratory Testing Program submissions, Foundation Design Recommendations and other geotechnical related reports.
  • Review Contractor design and construction submittals
  • On site observations of construction activities, including pile driving, subgrade preparation, installation of monitoring instrumentation
  • Collaborates with both junior and senior level staff to accomplish goals

Required Skills & Required Experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering (MS in Geotechnical Engineering preferred or in progress)
  • Ideal experience would 3-5 years of diverse geotechnical experience, including transportation project experience, preferably for NJDOT, NJ Turnpike or county agencies. Rail and alternate project delivery experience a plus.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is required (PE preferred)
  • Experience in building and bridge foundations, pavement design, slope stability/stabilization, and ground improvement/modification design and construction.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical design software including gINT/OpenGround, Ensoft LPILE/GROUP, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, SLIDE2, GRLWEAP, ct-Shoring, or similar
  • Field experience must include boring/test pit inspection for highway/bridge and building projects, Burmister and Unified soil classification systems, permeability test inspection, pavement core inspection, and general contractor supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A desire to work in a team environment
  • Prior experience with AASHTO, FHWA, NJDOT or NJ Turnpike Authority design manuals and guidelines are preferred
  • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required

Salary Range
The projected range for this position is $88,200 to $113,400 annually. Depending upon other factors, i.e., skills, experience, location, market conditions, the range may vary slightly. These ranges are for Bloomfield, NJ only.
