Job description

JOB TITLE: Junior Data Engineer (No C2C)

LOCATION: Hybrid in Indianapolis

INDUSTRY: Government


JOB OVERVIEW: We are seeking a Junior Data Engineer to join a newly formed team responsible for modernizing and governing enterprise data across the court system. This role is ideal for someone who is curious, detail-oriented, personable, and motivated by solving complex data quality challenges.

The position is heavily focused on data cleansing, validation, transformation, and testing. You will work with diverse datasets from multiple source systems, leveraging Python, SQL, and ETL/ELT tools to create accurate, reliable, and reusable datasets that support enterprise analytics and reporting. The team currently utilizes Wherescape and SQL Server data warehouse technologies and is evolving toward more Python-based data engineering practices.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and support data engineering processes using Python, SQL, and enterprise ETL/ELT tools.
  • Extract, transform, and load data from multiple production systems into clean, usable datasets.
  • Perform extensive data cleansing, validation, quality assurance, and testing activities.
  • Identify and resolve data issues including duplicates, inconsistent values, formatting discrepancies, missing information, and data entry errors.
  • Use Python, particularly Pandas and DataFrames, to transform data, create new fields, and prepare datasets for downstream consumption.
  • Write and maintain SQL queries, views, joins, tables, and stored procedures.
  • Validate and reconcile data across multiple databases and source systems.
  • Troubleshoot data quality issues and verify transformation accuracy through testing.
  • Support reusable and scalable data processes that can be expanded across projects and datasets.
  • Work within a medallion-style data architecture to organize and manage data throughout its lifecycle.
  • Communicate data findings, quality issues, and validation results with stakeholders.
  • Support data delivery into downstream reporting platforms, including Power BI.
  • Contribute to the organization's transition from traditional ETL tooling toward more modern Python-based data engineering solutions.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Approximately 2 years of experience in Data Engineering, ETL, Data Integration, or a related field.
  • Experience with enterprise ETL/ELT or data integration tools.
  • Must be a USC or Greencard Holder, no EADs or OPTs.
  • Must be local to Indianapolis, available to work onsite day one.
  • Strong Python skills, including:
  • Pandas
  • DataFrames
  • Data transformation techniques
  • Data cleansing and manipulation
  • Strong SQL skills, including:
  • SELECT statements
  • WHERE clauses
  • JOINs
  • Views
  • Stored Procedures
  • Data validation
  • Data deduplication
  • Experience working with SQL Server or other relational databases.
  • Experience cleaning, transforming, and validating data from multiple sources.
  • Ability to perform cross-database validation and data quality testing.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Curious, thorough, personable, and eager to learn new technologies and data environments.


PREFERRED:

  • Azure Data Factory and Microsoft Fabric exposure.
  • Wherescape, Informatica, Talend, or Databricks experience.
  • Knowledge of Medallion Architecture.
  • Python logging and Git version control experience.
  • SQL stored procedure development.
  • Exposure to Power BI or other data visualization tools.
