Job description

Teknor Apex is one of the world's leading plastic manufacturers and is headquartered in Pawtucket, RI. Each year the company recognizes the leadership that has represented these core values and contributed to our growth in the marketplace.
In honor of 50 years of loyal, dedicated service, the Victor J. Baxt Scholarship, honors an important leader in our company's history. The scholarship will be awarded annually to one student from the University of Rhode Island who meets the following criteria:
  • Enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program
  • Completion of sophomore year studies (rising Junior)
  • Field of study must be in an Engineering discipline OR Chemistry
  • Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Willing to work one summer session in one of Teknor Apex's manufacturing facilities

The scholarship annual value is $3,500 and will be presented to the University and credited to the student's tuition invoice for one year. At no time will the scholarship funds be paid directly to the student. Failure to remain in good academic standing or complete the field of study noted will forfeit eligibility to participate in the program for the subsequent semester. During the summer the student will be offered a paid, full-time internship, which will be project-based and designed around the student's field of study.
Applicants must apply by May 8th, 2026. The winning recipient will be notified by May 22nd, 2026.
About Victor J. Baxt
Victor J. Baxt spent much of his life at Teknor Apex in Pawtucket, RI contributing to its growth into a global leader in plastics manufacturing.
After graduating from the University of Rhode Island in 1938 and Duke University in 1940, Baxt joined his friend and fellow alumnus, the late Norman Fain '36, in 1943 at the Thompson Chemical Company (later to be named Teknor Apex). Through the years, they built the company into one that includes six major divisions with over 2,000 employees in 13 locations worldwide. Baxt also served as Chairman of the Board at Teknor Apex from 2003 - 2011.
Victor Baxt was also an ardent supporter of his alma mater. He was a trusted advisor and critical advocate for the University. He established the Victor Baxt Chair in Polymer Engineering and supported
