Job description

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Network Engineer to join our IT team in San Diego, CA. In this role, you will assist in the deployment, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of our organization’s network infrastructure. You will work closely with senior network engineers to troubleshoot connectivity issues, perform routine updates, and support day-to-day network operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor network performance, uptime, and traffic using network management tools.

  • Assist with the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.

  • Respond to and resolve assigned IT help desk tickets related to network and connectivity issues.

  • Perform routine maintenance, firmware updates, and system patches.

  • Maintain clear and updated documentation of network topology, configurations, and inventory.

  • Support remote and local users with VPN setup and troubleshooting.

  • Collaborate with the security team to ensure adherence to company security policies and compliance standards.


Required Qualifications & Skills
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience/associate degree).

  • Core Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of OSI model layers, TCP/IP protocol suite, subnetting, VLANs, Routing (OSPF, BGP basics), and Switching.

  • Hardware: Basic familiarity with enterprise networking hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Meraki, or HP/Aruba).

  • Troubleshooting: Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools such as ping, traceroute, nslookup, Wireshark, or command-line interfaces (CLI).

  • Operating Systems: Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating system network configurations.

  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, eager to learn, and effective communication skills for collaborating with technical and non-technical staff.

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
